At the CCSA President’s Reception in July, the CCUS industry was given a ringing endorsement by the new Minister for Industry Decarbonisation Sarah Jones. She said: “The Prime Minister has been loud and clear that clean energy by 2030 is a vital part of our mission for growth.” “And carbon capture, along with low-carbon hydrogen, will be critical to its success.” “We are absolutely committed to developing the UK carbon capture industry and we’re aiming to take final investment decisions on the first projects this year.” Support like this from the UK Government is an important step towards meeting the climate targets set out in the Paris agreement, but we need to accelerate the pace of delivery if we are to achieve them. At CCUS 2024: Capturing a Net Zero Future, on the 15-16 October 2024, there will be ample opportunity to discuss the role of CCUS as a mission critical technology and how we can maximise the opportunities ahead. 📢 Last week the CCSA’s UK Director Olivia Powis featured as a keynote speaker at the Leader Associates IMPACT! webinar titled "What's Next - Forecasting UK's Green Hydrogen and Carbon Capture Landscape under New Government," alongside key industry leaders. Olivia’s session, "Building Momentum of CCUS in the UK: Making Carbon Capture Projects Happen" covered the following points: 1. Overview of the UK CCUS industry 2. 📣 CCSA member Kellas Midstream recently welcomed Anna Turley, MP for Redcar, to their CATS terminal on Teesside to discuss their H2NorthEast blue hydrogen project. This 1GW facility, in partnership with SSE Thermal, aims to supply 10% of the UK’s hydrogen capacity by 2030, supporting local industry to decarbonise, with CO₂ captured and stored through the East Coast Cluster.
