We're introducing cashless parking From week commencing 24 February 2025, all our car parks will no longer accept cash payments, making them less expensive to run, and keeping payments secure. Blue badge holders remain unaffected by the changes as they can still park for free in any of our Blue Badge spaces in our car parks if they are displaying a valid badge. Drivers can pay for parking using: ➡️ Pay and Display Machines: these will continue to accept card payments, including contactless and chip-and-pin. ➡️ PayByPhone Service: available via a mobile app, an automated telephone line, or online https://lnkd.in/dDrKyZXd PayByPhone offers users: ➡️ SMS reminders when parking time is about to expire – charged at 20p. ➡️ Easy app access on Google Play and the Apple App Store People should always use the official PayByPhone app, phone number or website for secure payments. 🌿 Our Rights of Way Team and Ripple Volunteers have been hard at work on FP27! Thanks to concerns raised by Beds Police and Ward Cllr’s about anti-social behavior, we took action. 👏 With support from Stratton Upper School, we identified areas for improvement and collaborated with our Ecology Officer to minimise ecological impact. We made sure our work didn't disturb nesting birds and removed invasive plants to enhance local ecology. 💡 We also trimmed vegetation around lamp posts for better visibility, making the path safer at night and discouraging unwanted activities. 🙌 The day was a success, with the community showing appreciation for our volunteers' efforts in tackling this issue. 👍 Positive feedback from Ward Councillors highlights the impact of teamwork. This project is a testament to what can be achieved when communities unite for a common goal! 🌍 #CommunityAction #VolunteerPower

Campaign sees nearly 2,000 potentially dangerous batteries and chargers removed from sale Residents in the East of England will be safer after more than 1,800 potentially dangerous batteries and chargers were removed from sale thanks to a regional campaign by Trading Standards services from nine local authorities. The work was carried out after fire and rescue services in the eastern region reported an increase in the number of fires involving lithium-ion batteries and battery chargers. These batteries are found in a large number of household devices, including laptops, mobile phones, vacuum cleaners, and cordless power tools and can pose a serious fire risk. The campaign saw Trading Standards teams from across the East of England purchase and test 22 items, primarily from online marketplaces. All failed to provide the legally required safety information, while 13 posed serious safety risks, including the potential for electric shock, fire, and explosion. Our Trading Standards Team took further action by seizing 89 unsafe e-bike batteries and 169 hazardous Christmas tree lights from a local warehouse. These products were identified as serious fire hazards and have been removed from circulation to protect consumers.
