One of CIHT’s overarching themes is working for equality, diversity and inclusion in the transportation sector. A sector that truly represents the wider community that we serve enables us to deliver the best solutions to the challenges we face. CIHT are proactively focussing on having an increased diverse representation within our membership. With the theme for this year’s Black History Month being “Reclaiming Narratives”, we have taken the opportunity to highlight some of the activities that we are involved in across the highways and transportation sector. We would like to highlight some of the amazing individuals helping to reclaim the narrative; Joan Saunders-Reece, Emergency Planning Manager, Transport for London Beatrice Eke-Agbai (PIEMA)- Agbai, AVK-SEG, Sustainability Manager Georgia Yexley, the founder of the sustainable transport innovation agency LOUD MOBILITY Emmanuel A., CEO and Founder of The Fest Hub https://lnkd.in/eSzETBm3

(what we’re trying to do) is make it business as usual, both within the Institution and our activities, but more widely in the profession and how we deliver services…..inclusive practice can transform the way we work from universal design, placemaking, community engagement and much more" Listen to the latest episode of the CIHT Podcast “Transport Talks” we spoke to Dr Sue Sharland, Past President of CIHT, Former Chief Executive of the TRANSPORT RESEARCH LABORATORY LIMITED, Non-Executive & Trustee for a range of transport related organisations and outgoing CIHT EDI Panel Chair. https://lnkd.in/eykqspBQ

Highways UK Day 1 Today, the Minister for Roads Lilian Greenwood MP launched the Highways Sector Councils 'Ways of Life' Campaign. This campaign has been developed to showcase the positive role highways play in people’s modern lives and the many opportunities there are for rewarding careers in the sector. Designed by early and mid-career professionals to accurately portray highways and transport work, the campaign challenges preconceived notions about the sector and celebrates the crucial part highways play in helping people to live connected lives. Lilian Greenwood, Minister for Future of Roads at the Department for Transport, said: “Our road network is made possible by a talented workforce, who are the foundation for delivering better, safer roads that connect businesses and communities, and grow our economy. “The future of our roads depends on a new generation to drive this work forward, which is why we have partnered with Highways Sector Council to launch its ‘Ways of Life’ skills campaign. “We hope this campaign will help bring more brilliant people into the workforce, to continue to deliver our world leading road infrastructure.” Sue Percy CBE, Chief Executive, CIHT said: “CIHT is pleased to be a founding member of the Highways Sector Council. We are committed to working as part of the Council to support the transformation of the highways sector through coming together in partnership to help address some key challenges.
