On Saturday, 25 January, colleagues and partners came together for the London Winter Walk, raising vital funds for our corporate charity partner, the NSPCC. Participants covered distances ranging from a full marathon to a half-marathon and 10K, coming together as teams with a shared mission to create a meaningful impact. A new research report, conducted by The G15 shows the stigma faced by individuals and communities in social housing. The most common source of stigma was interactions with landlords, cited by 43% of respondents. Other areas included interactions with customer service agents, such as banks and mobile phone companies (24%), and dealings with official authorities (24%). Residents highlighted media portrayals of social housing and residents as the most significant driver of negative perceptions. Language used by politicians and government housing policy, ranked second and third. Despite these challenges, the findings make clear that social housing provides a vital foundation for individuals and families. To announce the launch of the sixth William Sutton Prize and mark our 125th anniversary, the Prize pot has been increased to £125,000, which will be awarded to ideas and innovations that transform the lives of social housing residents. The £125,000 fund will be split between the winners of two categories, focusing on Sustainability and Connected Communities. Our Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Catherine Thomas, joined other speakers at this year’s Comms and Influencing in Housing Conference. Catherine spoke at the breakout session 'Getting buy-in from stakeholders through transparent communication’, where she discussed how to establish credibility and trust in the sector. She also shared best practices for fostering long-term relationships with government decision-makers. The Comms and Influencing in Housing Conference is a new initiative from The National Housing Federation, designed to help housing associations enhance their communication strategies, influence effectively, and build lasting relationships with residents and stakeholders. #NHFComms
