We are a national charity specialising in supporting young people facing homelessness.

About us

Depaul UK is a national homelessness charity that aims to end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it. We help young people who are homeless and disadvantaged fulfil their potential in the community - and support more than 3,100 people a year. We protect young people by finding them a place to call home, prevent them from becoming homeless by rebuilding family relationships, and give them the chance to take part in volunteering, training and education. Depaul UK also offers through-the-gate support to young offenders. Depaul UK relies on the support of companies, trusts and foundations, and communities to help us do our work. We love to hear from anyone who would like to support us through fundraising, charity-of-the-year partnerships, grants or volunteering.

Youth homelessness is a growing crisis in London. As part of World Homeless Day, we’re sharing findings from our new Young People’s Rough Sleeping Census. This pilot census, rolled-out across Camden, Lambeth, and Bromley, has uncovered critical gaps in our understanding of youth homelessness. The data shows that 28% of the young people surveyed did not appear on official rough sleeping data, suggesting the true reality of homelessness is much worse than records suggest; and it revealed that 80% were from minority backgrounds, including high numbers of refugees, highlighting a critical need for targeted support and early intervention. Sadly, homelessness in London is at a record high. In early 2024, over 4,100 people were recorded as sleeping rough in London, a 33% increase from the previous year. We’re incredibly excited to be collaborating with French Connection in recognition of World Homeless Day on the 10th October 2024. This week, French Connection will donate 10% on all sales of outerwear to Depaul UK, helping us provide vital support to young people at risk of homelessness. With the numbers of people rough sleeping at a record high, we’re working together to raise awareness, and support those facing, or at risk of homelessness.

Critical funding for homelessness services is set to end in 2025, putting people at greater risk. Rough sleeping in England has increased by 120% since 2010 and the number of people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, is at an all-time high. Alongside 22 other homelessness organisations, Depaul UK is urging the Government to extend Rough Sleeping Initiative funding, which is due to expire in March 2025. Without it, many more people will be pushed into homelessness. https://lnkd.in/efAq28AQ St Mungo's

It was fantastic to collaborate with OSBGroup and Demelza Charity last week for the Pop-up Shop and careers event as part of #secondhand September. Thanks to all those who were involved with organising such a successful and engaging event for our young people at Depaul UK!

From pre-loved to re-loved 👔❤️ We’ve worked with Depaul UK and Demelza Charity this Second Hand September to gather work wear donations from colleagues that will go on to help young homeless people find success in the workplace. Surplus items will then be sorted and distributed across Demelza shops to ensure all clothing finds a new home. #SecondHandSeptember #SustainableFashion #WeAreOSB

Exciting news! Depaul UK is in the running to become Briggs Equipment UK Ltd next Charity of the Year partner! 🙌 Last year alone, 136,000 young people sought help from local councils due to homelessness. This is a crisis we can't ignore. With Briggs Equipment’s support, we can make an even bigger impact—helping more young people find a path from homelessness to independence and a brighter future. If you work for Briggs Equipment or know someone who does, be sure to cast your vote for DepaulUK before 4th October. Let’s make a difference together!

We were thrilled to receive a visit last week from Rushanara Ali, the new Minister for Building Safety and Homelessness. Rushanara met residents and staff at our Peony Project, funded by Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government with Manchester and Salford councils, which provides supported accommodation for women who have slept rough or are at risk of doing so. The women she met are usually overcoming traumatic experiences. The flagship service supports them move on from homelessness into their own homes. We hope the Ministry will continue to support our work for years to come.

“Every day, I see firsthand how we are helping to keep families together and preventing young people from the dangers of homelessness.” This week as part of St Vincent de Paul Week we are celebrating the potential in people. Meet Ebenezer, a Family Mediator at Depaul UK, works with young people who often face homelessness due to family breakdowns. Many leave home as a last resort, sometimes ending up sleeping rough in unsafe situations. Through mediation, Ebenezer helps rebuild trust and strengthen relationships between young people and their families. Despite challenges like overcrowding and substance misuse, mediation fosters understanding and guides young people toward independence. When returning home isn’t an option, we ensure they have the support and safe housing needed for a brighter future.
