The transition to net zero in Wales is well underway as we enter 2025 🍃 The Welsh Government's Wales Economic and Fiscal Report 2024 was published in December, showing key trends shaping our future and providing the economic and fiscal context for the draft budget. With a 36% drop in emissions since 1990, the report highlights the critical role of green jobs in driving economic growth and improving life in Wales. Cydsefydlodd tri entrepreneur ifanc, Iwan Pritchard, Stephen Hickinbotham, a Tomos Owen, i gyd o dan 25 oed, y cwmni technoleg sy’n darparu llwyfan arloesol ar gyfer rheoli gweithrediadau chwaraeon. Mae’r buddsoddiad, a arweiniwyd gan y prif fuddsoddwr Robert Williams, drwy syndicet o ddeg angel wedi buddsoddi £124,500, a oedd yn cyfateb yn rhannol â £124,500 pellach gennym ni, a chwblhaodd buddsoddiad preifat y rownd gan gymryd y cyfanswm i £355,000. Tech company Pelly have scored a £335,000 pre-seed investment from us alongside M-Sparc Angels and private investment. Three young entrepreneurs all under the age of 25, Iwan Pritchard, Stephen Hickinbotham, and Tomos Owen, are the co-founders of the tech company set up to provide cutting-edge platform for sports operation management. The investment, led by lead investor Robert Williams, through a syndicate of ten angels has invested £124,500, which was part-matched with a further £124,500 from us, and private investment completed the round taking the total to £355,000. Co-founder Iwan Pritchard said: ‘Pelly bridges the gap between data and action. We’ve built a platform that leverages AI to turn complex data into clear, actionable insights for clubs... The support of our team, advisors, and investors is helping us to accelerate our growth. They’re encouraging us to work smarter whilst opening doors and providing the working capital that we need to fund our early-stage development. Bwydydd Oren Foods, a fruit and veg wholesaler in Gwynedd, has taken a big step towards sustainability with the installation of new solar panels, funded by a £60,000 loan from us through our Green Business Loan Scheme. Run by Gethin Dwyfor, Oren Foods supplies fresh produce to businesses and local authorities across north and mid Wales. To reduce their carbon footprint, they’ve installed a 60MWh solar array and electric vehicle charging points, supporting their switch to electric delivery vans. ‘Like a lot of businesses, making the switch to greener energy and solar panels were an obvious next step for us, but we didn’t have the resources needed to make that change,' explained Gethin. 'The support we’ve had … via the Green Business Loan Scheme has been great. It’s a cost-neutral step in the short term, and will pay off in the long term because we’ll be able to power our fleet sustainably and pay less for our energy’.
