Nicky (Nicola) Dent, #MAMI Global Network Coordinator, attended Day 1 of the Global Health Practitioners Conference on Health Communities: Sustainable Environments #GHPC24 Nicky particularly enjoyed a site visit to Pumwani Maternity Hospital, a leading Kenyan hospital and Centre of Excellence, with a Skills Lab to improve capacity development and outcomes for mothers and infants. Approaching its 100th year of opening (in 1926), with some 24,000 births a year (60-80 births a day) it was fascinating and inspiring to hear from the team and learn some of their innovations, challenges and outcomes. "I was particularly struck by the sheer number of deliveries from a huge catchment area and the level of care provided for premature and low birth weight, including use of kangaroo mother care and one of the first human milk banks in Africa!"
