It's #ThrowbackThursday and we're throwing it back to a year ago, on March 19, 2024, when we took a major step forward in our long-standing partnership with Safran Aircraft Engines by signing a decade-long agreement to expand our support for LEAP engines, covering: - New shafts and spare parts for the LEAP-1A (Airbus A320neo) - Expected component production planned for LEAP-1B (Boeing 737 MAX) - New shaft production ramping up at our Kongsberg, Norway facility This milestone builds on our 35+ years of collaboration with Safran, spanning industry-leading engines like the CFM56, GE90, and next-gen RISE technology development. It’s Global Recycling Day! #DYK that at GKN Aerospace's Global Technology Centre in #Hoogeveen (the Netherlands), we’re pioneering advanced thermoplastic composite technology? Our advanced thermoplastics components are highly recyclable, reduce aircraft weight, and lower fuel consumption—driving a more sustainable aerospace industry. In the award-winning Airbus-led Clean Aviation MFFD (Multi Functional Fuselage Demonstrator) project, we partnered with Delft University of Technology, NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre, and SAM XL. Together, we manufactured the thermoplastic lower half of the MFFD, showcasing next-generation recyclable thermoplastic fuselage technology. #GlobalRecyclingDay #SustainableAerospace #Innovation

We’re proud to announce the successful completion of the Award-Winning ASCEND (Aerospace and Automotive Supply Chain Enabled Development) programme, a £39.6M cross-sector collaboration that has transformed high-rate, sustainable composite manufacturing. Led by GKN Aerospace, ASCEND brought together 16 UK partners to drive next-generation composite technologies for aerospace, future mobility, and automotive industries, with the support of the Aerospace Technology Institute. Partners included Assyst Bullmer Ltd, UK, Airborne, Cygnet Texkimp, DES Composites Ltd, Far-UK Ltd, Hexcel Corporation Composites, Hive Composites Ltd, LMAT, Loop Technology Ltd, McLaren Automotive Ltd NCC National Composites Centre , Rafinex, Sigmatex (UK), and Syensqo, with support from Axillium Research. John Pritchard President Civil Airframe at GKN Aerospace, said: "ASCEND’s success in high-rate manufacturing is reinforcing the UK’s position in next-generation aircraft. The programme delivered key technological breakthroughs, meeting high standards of price, quality, and sustainability." ASCEND's Demonstrator projects, GKN Aerospace’s bladed wingtip and McLaren Automotive Ltd’s rear floor component, are showcasing aerospace precision at automotive production rates.
