Change the way you see the world

About us

In 1896 we set out on a journey of exploration from our homeland in Norway. Driven by a passion to discover what lies beyond the horizon, we sailed in the wake of the pioneering seafarers who were redrawing the boundaries of our world. Today, we’re leaders in expedition cruising, taking you to those places that lure the curious traveller. Whether it’s spotting polar bears in the pristine landscapes of the Arctic, watching marine iguanas bask on the Galápagos Islands, or getting up close to Antarctica's penguins in our stylish, purpose-built expedition ships, a Hurtigruten Expedition brings you closer to a world of wonder. With onboard lectures and science centres, your expedition team will illuminate your mind with talks about history, culture, science and art, ensuring you return home with a deep understanding and love of the places you explore. Our mission is to be the world’s most sustainable expedition company. With the best ESG ranking of a cruise company by Morningstar Sustainalytics in 2023, we've led the industry by being the first to eliminate single-use plastics and heavy fuel oils, and our hybrid-powered cruise ships were a world first. Join us as we continue our journey to change the way you see the world.

Love this from our CCO Alex Delamere-White, who visited his daughter’s primary school to give an inspirational talk about what HX does. A great example of how HX continues to focus on science, sustainability and education – especially for the next generation!

Today I had the privilege of visiting my daughter’s primary school to give a talk about how HX Hurtigruten Expeditions go to amazing places like Antarctica and the Arctic, as part of their ‘polar weeks’. It was incredible to see how engaged the kids were, especially as we discussed HX’s commitment to science and sustainability. There were so many thoughtful questions, which made the experience even more rewarding. They all received a little ‘HX Little Explorers’ branded T-shirt and more information on how their everyday activities and actions can have a positive impact on climate change and conservation. It was a truly special moment for me (as a Dad, but also a HX leader). It reinforces how strongly HX’s values align with inspiring and educating the next generation. Plus in 15 years time if we suddenly see a steep climb in CV’s for people to join our Expedition Team, I won’t be surprised!

  • We’re delighted to launch the first-ever Greenland cruises with roundtrip flights from New York. Departing on June 21, 2025 - Greenland’s National Day, marked by the summer solstice - these itineraries feature dedicated flight allocations on United Airlines’ direct routes to Nuuk. Crafted with Greenlandic communities, they are the only expedition cruise itineraries designed and managed by Greenlanders, providing authentic access to Greenland’s west coast aboard the hybrid-powered MS Fridtjof Nansen.  “Greenland is on the cusp of transformation,” said Laali Berthelsen, Local Product Manager for HX Expeditions and Nuuk resident. “With the opening of our new international airport and direct flights, Greenland is more accessible than ever. As interest grows, we have a responsibility to ensure tourism uplifts our communities and respects our environment.” Learn more here: https://ow.ly/lIwz50ULEIG
