Work is moving along at Hole Farm Community Woodland - we’ve now planted 150,000 trees! We’ve also created new ecological ponds, built key access routes and started shaping the site. The site is already coming to life with wildlife moving in! With the opening planned for later this year, we’ll soon begin work on the café and substation while finishing the car park, footpaths, water features, drainage, and play areas. Low carbon construction is here! Yesterday, we joined our partners Tarmac in #Essex, who will help us to build the #LowerThamesCrossing. We saw a showcase of low carbon technology and an innovative electric fleet. These could be used to help drive carbon from the infrastructure industry. As a Pathfinder project, we are always exploring ways to bring low and zero carbon innovation to commercial scale and accelerate the transition of construction to Net Zero.
We’re live today with Sustain Alliance from Tarmac Tilbury Depot for our Fleet Demonstration Day – a showcase of the innovative fleet that could help drive carbon out of the Lower Thames Crossing and other major infrastructure projects in the UK. Throughout the day, we’ll be sharing insights and highlights from each session, covering the future of sustainable logistics, next-generation vehicles, and live demonstrations across electric, efficient, and low-carbon technology. Thanks to all our guests for joining us!

NEW VIDEO: Our low-carbon construction blueprint has now been adopted by £30 billion worth of future infrastructure projects, ensuring the infrastructure we need can be built in a Net Zero future. Last week we joined the Construction Leadership Council and Minister for Industry Sarah Jones at an event to update the construction industry on the Five Client Carbon Commitments – simple, practical steps that organisations can take to reduce their carbon emissions. With the Lower Thames Crossing leading the way, the construction industry is decarbonising fast. Watch our new video here: https://lnkd.in/edETwAhq

NEW VIDEO: We recently met with our wider supply chain to discuss how we can go further in our journey towards net zero in construction. At the event, we were joined by businesses from across the steel, concrete and earthworks sectors to explore opportunities for low carbon construction. The #LowerThamesCrossing is a pathfinder project and we have ambitious plans for meeting zero emissions and holding events like this, enable us to bring together our delivery partners and the supply chain to discuss how we can decarbonise further, what the challenges are and how we can support the supply chain. We are committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders and our supply chain to leave a positive skills, education and employment legacy across local communities. Last week, our team was out during #NationalCareersWeek working with schools to inspire the next generation. We’ve designed some engaging activities to excite students about the different types of careers available within the construction industry. #LowerThamesCrossing
To celebrate #Nationalcareersweek on Tuesday I had the pleasure to attend the Endeavour Academy SEND school in #Brentwood to deliver some fun STEM careers sessions to the KS3 students. The sessions were focused all around the construction industry, what construction meant to them and the different types of careers we have available in our sector. The students then had the opportunity to take part in their own construction challenges to build towers out of Knex & spaghetti. During this activity we focused on the key skills that employers look for that they were showcasing such as team work, leadership, communication, problem solving and more! The students seemed to really enjoy the day… “On Tuesday we got to make towers out of spaghetti and Knex. It was really fun and I enjoyed it. I learnt that construction offers lots of different jobs”. “I thought the session was very good to be honest with you, if I had a choice to do it again I would. I really liked trying on the cool outfits, it made me feel like an actual builder”. I am really looking forward to continuing to work with Peggy Gisby and to plan our next event with students this year!
