Progress from our City of York Council Duncombe Square #Passivhaus and #NetZero carbon in-use housing development in York. All of our homes have roof mounted solar PV. We have Viridian Solar in-roof PVs on the south facing pitched roofs which look amazing. Solar PV is a key part of our net zero carbon in-use strategy. Our homes are designed to produce as much energy from the PV over a year as they will consume. In the UK this has to be on a 'net' basis, because of our northern latitude we get a lot of summer sunshine/daylight which will produce more electricity than the homes will require in summer months. However as anyone with PV will know, in the UK winters solar PV output is much lower. NEWS: We're proud to share that Jas Bhalla and Mikhail Riches are working with Camden Council on the first wave of its small sites housebuilding programme. The two infill sites on the Highgate Road and Raglan Street Estates will be designing new homes on the site of under-used car parks and garages. Both sites aim to provide much-needed new social housing and affordable rent homes for local residents of Camden and we have been engaging closely with residents and surrounding communities to refine concept designs. Good luck to Urban Splash and Mikhail Riches for their RIBA #StirlingPrize shortlisting for the second phase of work at Park Hill. Amazing to look back on the success of the 50/50 collaboration of Studio Egret West and Hawkins\Brown, working with Urban Splash, Sheffield City Council and Grant Associates to craft the regenerative framework for Park Hill, including the detailed design of phase one which itself made the Stirling Prize shortlist in 2013. Our overarching approach sought to ameliorate nearly 40 years of neglect and misunderstanding, as well as reintegrate the building into its local context and community. Last year Park Hill was the winner of the Architecture Today “Buildings that Stand the Test of Time” Award, testimony to its resilience and its liveability. Our collaborative relationship with Hawkins\Brown has continued to flourish, most recently at Earls Court with the The Earls Court Development Company. In the meantime, a high five to Urban Splash for a double Stirling Prize shortlisting for leading the regeneration work spanning nearly two decades, and fingers crossed for the Phase 2 team at tonight’s RIBA Stirling Prize Ceremony.
