Our water team presenting their work on one of the most significant regeneration schemes in the UK, West Longbridge, to Environmental Management and Sustainability BSc (Hons) students from the University of Worcester last week. Working on the £1 billion redevelopment project in collaboration with Birmingham City Council, Environment Agency and St. Modwen, the team re-naturalised the River Rea. Previously hidden for nearly a century, PJA helped to unlock the site’s development potential and transform Longbridge into a sought-after place to live and work, creating thousands of new jobs. The students also learned about the remediation efforts led by our ground engineering team at East Longbridge, ensuring the land was safe and ready for development. After the presentations, we took them on a walk along the River Rea Trail to see the results first-hand, and it was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and curiosity. We’re celebrating movement in Shrewsbury and beyond! PJA have worked with the Shrewsbury Big Town Plan on a strategy to make Shrewsbury one of the most inclusive, accessible, and economically vibrant towns in the UK. The Shrewsbury Moves strategy, containing ideas such as introducing traffic loops, improving cycle routes and creating more public spaces, was published in January 2024 and a major public consultation gathered over 4,000 comments from nearly 1,400 respondents. Now, a four-day celebration of the future of movement in Shrewsbury (and beyond) ‘The Shrewsbury Moves Festival and Conference’ is taking place until 23rd March 2025. Are you local? Last week, we hosted a Travel Plan Launch Event at 3&4 Station Square in Cambridge, acting as the Travel Plan Coordinator for the site on behalf of Brookgate. The event was a huge success, with EMC Bike Repairs also joining us on the day. Our team connected with staff to learn more about their commuting habits, promote sustainable travel options, and officially launch the Staff Travel Surveys as part of the site’s Travel Plan. Meanwhile, EMC Bike Repairs kept things rolling smoothly by providing free bike checks and repairs for staff. A big thank you to Emily Daffern and David Gannon for attending and supporting the event!
