We excited to announce planning approval for 135 new, energy efficient, affordable houses and apartments on the nine-acre former Skerton High School site on the Mainway estate in Lancaster. Along with the new homes, the scheme will see the creation of a large central community square providing local residents with a much needed place to meet, relax and socialise. The development work will also see the reclamation of two football pitches complete with changing facilities for players and officials. Extensive planting and landscaping measures across the development will bring added biodiversity to the estate. In the Council’s recent announcement, Councillor Caroline Jackson, leader of Lancaster City Council and cabinet member with responsibility for housing, said: “It's wonderful to have the planning permission through for the Skerton site. This development is a huge step forward in our regeneration efforts for Mainway and I am thrilled that these exciting proposals have been approved. We are excited to announce planning approval for 152 new, energy efficient homes on the Whitebirk estate in Blackburn. As part of our continuing partnership with Together Housing to deliver its place shaping strategy, the plans include 46 one-bedroom apartments, 45 two-bedroom houses and apartments, 54 three-bed houses, and seven four-bed houses. All of the homes will be available for affordable rent. Along with the new homes, the plans also provide significant investment to upgrade recreational spaces, improved streetscaping and the landscaping of incidental green spaces. Key among them is the redevelopment of the estate’s central park which will see the creation of a multi-generational park providing new play areas, seating, open and accessible pathways, and a planting programme to increase biodiversity. We’re pleased to announce that we have received planning approval for the Knuzden Gateway scheme on the Shadsworth estate in Blackburn. As part of our continuing partnership with Together Housing to deliver their portfolio-wide Place Shaping strategy, the scheme is the latest phase of a £20 million investment programme for the regeneration of the wider community. The scheme will see the delivery of 68 new, energy efficient affordable homes along with a number of enhancements across the scheme, including landscaping, children’s play area and improved pedestrian connectivity. Homes will be built to extremely high standards of energy efficiency with a range of sustainable features including solar panels, permeable paving and air-source heat pumps. A key improvement for the area is 71 on-plot and off-street car parking spaces, which will reduce reliance on on-street parking, easing congestion and improving accessibility. The scheme will achieve a 19.75% Biodiversity Net Gain, far exceeding the 10% legal requirement, through tree planting, wildlife-friendly habitats, and green spaces. As a result, it will support local wildlife and improve the overall environment for residents.
