Well done to the shortlisted finalists, it's always awesome to see my Sky colleague, the superb Jonathan Overend, in action, and thanks again to the marvel that is Hattie Park for welcoming us to THE ALL ENGLAND LAWN TENNIS CLUB (CHAMPIONSHIPS) LIMITED for a wonderful, engaging event.
I have to make special mention of a winning entry which I'm connected to and very much invested in (figuratively). Whilst I'm not actually an ambassador for Planet League, I am a supporter of their work because it's about high ambition and verified action, and whilst I'm not a Tottenham Hotspur Football Club fan, I'm a big backer of Amy James-Turner and what she is building in climate/sustainability. Amy worked closely with Tom Gribbin at Planet League to deliver a first-of-its-kind, player-led report entitled "Women's Football and Climate Change: The Players' Perspective".
I helped visualise the report by filming Amy and three of her fellow pros talking honestly, earnestly, refreshingly and compellingly about this topic for my Playing for the Planet series. The piece ran nine times in all on Sky Sports News on the day the report was released. Two days later, I took Amy to the showcase event for UEFA's Champions Innovate programme to talk about it on stage. And yesterday it won Feature of the Year at BASIS Awards. I wasn't named on the trophy, neither was Sky Sports News...and that's right.
Because for me, I love backing good things and this is all about the qualities and efforts of others - supreme vision, strong ethos and hard work. If it's going to be worth featuring on a national broadcast platform, these things are pre-requisites. I'm so chuffed for Tom, Amy and also James Atkins behind the scenes - they have put so much into this, and they got the reward they deserved in an extremely tough category. Very well played, team!
Here's a link to the full piece that ran on Sky - enjoy!
