Ryder is delighted to see the exhibition open to the public on 28 March after being involved in the project as exhibition designers, led by Ryder architectural director Alan Farlie. In the largest contemporary exhibition ever held at the museum, Delusions of Grandeur presents over 40 new works by Sir Grayson Perry (1960). Visitors will encounter ceramics, tapestries and works on paper amongst others, displayed alongside masterpieces from the collection that helped shape Perry’s vision for this landmark show. New photos show inside of National Rehabilitation Centre as plans come to life! The grand feature staircase, modern ensuite bathrooms and solar panels on the roof are now all in place at the first NHS National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC), as plans which have been in the pipeline for a decade continue to come to life. The 70-bed purpose-built rehabilitation centre near Loughborough will be staffed and run by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and aims to transform rehabilitation in the UK. The £105million NRC programme is part of the New Hospital Programme. As 2025 progresses and the NRC prepares to begin accepting its first patients in the summer, construction efforts at the site near Loughborough continue to gather pace, with more than 200 tradespeople working on the build each day. Inside the building, the statement staircase has been installed in the main atrium where patients will first enter the centre, and bedrooms continue to take shape as bedheads are installed and the en-suite bathrooms fitted. Elsewhere, flooring is being laid and miles of wiring installed. Ryan McCormack, Head of Commercial and Construction for the NRC, said: “With fewer than six months to go to when we will be welcoming our first patients, it’s exciting to see how quickly the interior of the building is changing on an almost day to day basis. “It’s been a pleasure to see this incredible building emerge from the ground up, and these next few months are where it will all suddenly come to life as more and more of the fixtures and fittings are installed and finishes are complete, ready for our very first patients.” The construction is being carried out by IHP, a joint venture between VINCI and Sir Robert McAlpine. The Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough, already home to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre which opened in 2018, was carefully selected as the site for the NRC to bring together these two centres of excellence and drive rehabilitation standards both nationally and internationally. The design of the NRC uses modern methods of construction and will be highly energy efficient, with plans for the building to support the NHS ambition to be Carbon Net Zero by 2045. Work continues to integrate the Smart Hospital design to make the NRC as digitally advanced as possible, with the capability to incorporate additional cutting-edge technology in the future. Last week, we welcomed Kudzai Matsvai, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Expert at Kumacon, to kickstart our Inspirational Leaders series. Kudazi joined us in London, delivering an engaging workshop on the themes of equity and spatial justice, exploring why she decided to focus on EDI work in the profession and how these wider themes continue to affect the built environment. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Kudzai.
It was an absolute honour kicking off the 'Inspirational Leaders' series at Ryder Architecture last week! To be recognised as both an inspiration and a leader in a profession I never thought I would succeed in is truly heart-warming, and I cannot thank Daniel Mossman-Clark enough for inviting me to speak and continuing to champion the work I do. And to anyone else who is currently moving through the profession but feels they have no place in it, I would like to remind you of something the great Shirley Chisholm once said: “If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair”. - #inspirationalleaders #equitydiversityinclusion

Very honoured to have been invited by Anglia Ruskin University to participate in their Monthly Lecture Series. My lecture about Design for Mental Health covered the principles about best practice for mental health, as well as case studies for different patient groups from child and adolescents, adult acute, rehab, and older adults. Very interesting questions raised by the students, to close out an inspiring session raising awareness about #mentalhealth. Thanks to Antonio Blanco Montero, Ph.D for the invitation, really enjoyed the session. Ryder Architecture #everythingarchitecture

Did you make it to Workspace Design Show London this year? If you did, I’m sure you couldn’t miss the two talks stages that Umbrella proudly sponsored. As the official furniture partner for Gensler and Ryder Architecture, Umbrella sponsored and supported the main design talks space as well the Occupiers Forum. If that wasn't enough to keep everyone at Umbrella busy, our MD Matt Clarke also was part of the panel talk about inclusivity in design. With so many more events happening throughout the year, make sure you keep your eyes peeled to see what else Umbrella gets up to.
