Great discussion yesterday at Bisnow’s panel on The Retrofit Revolution with Stanhope’s Laura Collins alongside Kate Green MRICS, Mark Swetman, Jon Eaglesham and Holly Price. One thing was clear: retrofitting buildings is often much more challenging than building something from scratch. It requires a creative and innovative mindset from the start. There’s also the difficulty of balancing occupier needs and expectations with the realities of existing structural constraints. As Laura pointed out, collaboration is vital in overcoming those challenges. Making retrofit work requires a collective effort across the industry, from the project teams, occupiers to government. Having the right team, the right approach, and a shared commitment to tackling these challenges together is key. #retrofit #workplaces #sustainableoffice

🌟 We are thrilled to announce that Careys Construction Campus will be piloted at Oxford North to provide free, flexible on-site #groundworking #construction #training which will guarantee an offer of an #interview on completion of the training and boost #jobs and #talent in the industry. The three-week training course will be available to people aged 17 years and over. The Campus is due to open at the end of March 2025 and the first pilot course will run for three weeks from 8am to 4pm five days a week. 👷👷♂️The Campus will train between 12 to 15 people in #curbing, #blockpaving, #drainage and finishing. Students will gain their Level 2 credit in ground operative skills to progress to further training in groundworks at Level 2 such as diploma, or to progress into a job role in the construction industry or #apprenticeship. Tom Wraight MCIOB, Regional Director, Careys, who has spearheaded Careys Construction Campus at Oxford North, said: “There is a skills crisis in construction, and we are addressing this head-on through our Construction Campus model giving opportunities for people to be trained for free in the exciting environment of a major construction site. We are thrilled to be piloting our second campus at Oxford North – a really well-connected place on the bus networks to encourage as many people as possible looking to get into our great industry to gain free and excellent training.” There are no formal entry requirements for learners starting this qualification, which can be undertaken without any previous training or qualifications on this subject. People can register their interest whether they are in-work, self-employed, unemployed, or returning to work after a break, by visiting the dedicated website. Importantly, this is place-based, not project-based, so we hope that this will help address skills gaps not only benefitting Oxford North but projects across Oxford and Oxfordshire. ➡️ Find out more: https://lnkd.in/d4skHtvR St John's College, Oxford Thomas White Oxford Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Stanhope PLC 🙏 Victoria Collett Aja Pymble-Ward Alice Reid Tom Storey Gemma Griffiths Oliver Blake Maddy Donaghy Madison Wraight Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Oxford City Council Oxfordshire County Council Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP) Oxfordshire Inclusive Economy Partnership (OIEP) Abingdon and Witney College Activate Learning Aspire Oxfordshire CITB SOFEA St Mungo's

Last week Hill Group UK hosted #Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook MP at Canalside Quarter as part of the Government’s housing-focused week and Rt Hon Rachel Reeves recent renewed commitment to the #Oxford to #Cambridge Growth Corridor, to see Oxford North's #placemaking, #newhomes, #workspace and #amenities being delivered as a key catalyst for unlocking future growth in the region. Joining the Minister from Oxford City Council were Caroline Green, CEO, Councillor Susan Brown, Leader, and David Butler, Director of Planning and Regulation, and Greg Hill, Deputy CEO and Ryan Harris, Regional Director, from The Hill Group. Minister of State for Housing and Planning, Matthew Pennycook: “It was a real pleasure to visit the Canalside Quarter development and to see the contribution it will make to the emerging Oxford North innovation district. The government is backing housebuilders like The Hill Group to deliver more well-designed, sustainable, and attractive places for people to live and to expand and upskill our construction workforce as they do so. Through our Plan for Change we are accelerating the delivery of large housing sites across the country, as part of our efforts to build 1.5 million new homes and kickstart economic growth.” William Donger, CEO, Thomas White Oxford: "It was a pleasure to meet the Minister as he visited the new Canalside Quarter, developed in partnership with The Hill Group. Oxford City Council envisioned this area as a purposefully designed place aimed at fostering the next century of transformative advancements in science and technology. "Our commitment to placemaking includes integrating #laboratories, workspaces and new homes alongside vital amenities such as a café, #publicparks, market square, and playground for children, all while promoting #sustainable #transport solutions. Together, we are establishing a dynamic new location for Oxford that not only enhances local employment in #construction but also creates #innovation jobs throughout the operational phase, thereby supporting the growth corridor between Oxford and Cambridge.” ➡️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/e7GcKYYu Victoria Collett Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government #Oxford #scienceislife
