Stanhope is proud to have been supporting the development of the technical content for the #UKNZCBS! The UK NZC Buildings Standard will enable the construction industry to prove robustly that built assets align with the UK’s carbon and energy budgets – something we strongly need. Until this point, there has been no single, agreed methodology for defining what ‘net zero carbon’ means for buildings in the UK. We look forward to supporting this pilot study, applying it to our projects, and contributing our learnings to the industry to inform the final release. Download the #UKNetZeroCarbonBuildingsStandard Pilot Version and read more about the initiative here: www.nzcbuildings.co.uk #UKNetZeroCarbonBuildingsStandard #UKNZCBS #NetZero #NetZeroGoals #NetZeroEmissions #ZeroCarbon #ClimateAction #Sustainability #OperationalEnergy #EmbodiedCarbon #CarbonFootprint #ClimateCrisis #SustainableFuture #ClimateSolutions #Decarbonisation

Our Project Director Laura Collins spoke at Building Magazine's #Buildingthefuture Conference on Wednesday on the 'Finding a path to construction output growth' panel. Laura mentioned the importance of working together and using creative thinking to introduce younger people to our industry early and to convey the many varied roles available to them. She also spoke about how we can build on the great foundation we have already laid through high quality on site facilities and the developments we leave behind as our legacy. #developement #futurethinking

We're thrilled that 8 Bishopsgate has won City Building of the Year 2024! A fantastic result for a fantastic building and a project we're very proud of. We can't wait to move in...!
We’re delighted to reveal that the City Building of the Year 2024 has been won by 8 Bishopsgate, a 50-storey tower combining new workplace with impressive amenities by architects, WilkinsonEyre for Mitsubishi Estate/Stanhope. We look forward to presenting the award at our lunch on 26th September. A plaque will also be unveiled at the building by Lord Mayor, Michael Mainelli this autumn. The jury was unanimous in their decision, and praised the project's civic quality: “Public access to the building is a welcome feature of the development… Leasing of spaces, including the auditorium, is encouraged as part of a management policy which sees the building as a welcoming City facility rather than an office ‘fortress’.” “The building sits next to the enormous 22 Bishopsgate tower and in lesser hands might have been overpowered by it. However, the robust diagram for the project, and its skilfully delivered architecture and engineering by Arup have produced a sophisticated building, 10 percent of which is amenity space, including a 220-seat auditorium, that has proved a commercial as well as design success.” Oliver Tyler of WilkinsonEyre, said: “We are extremely pleased that 8 Bishopsgate has been selected by The Architect’s Company as The City Building of the Year. Being recognised by our peers, with input from the City planners, is always very special, and whilst 8 Bishopsgate has won a number of industry awards, it is particularly rewarding for it to be recognised for the quality of its architecture.” The panel also awarded a Special Commendation to The Whittington Building by Stanton Williams for The Mercers' Company, which, while “not huge (36,000 sq ft), packs a big architectural punch”. Described as ‘one brief with three contexts’, this retrofit and combining of two buildings faces a pedestrianised courtyard on its main elevation, as well as responding to the scale of Ironmonger Lane at its rear. The Stanton Williams team added: “We are thrilled that The Whittington Building for the Mercers Company has been highly commended in the 2024 City Building of the Year Awards. This recognition is testament to the hard work and dedication that has gone into creating a building that is deeply rooted in its context and strives to enhance the public's experience of its surroundings. We would like to thank the entire team and our client for making this achievement possible.” The City of London Building of the Year Award is the Architects’ Company’s annual prize for the best new building completed in the City, and a celebration of the contribution architecture makes to the civic life of the Square Mile. Thanks to our jury, who visited all eligible schemes: chair, Chris Williamson, with architects, Chris Dyson, Simone de Gale ARB RIBA, Femi Oresanya, as well as Lacuna Projects', Stella Ioannou, and WAF Programme Director, paul finch.
