The Games, Animation & 3D Modelling course at East Surrey College had its 2nd annual Game Jam a few weeks ago and it went amazingly! Year 1s & 2s were partnered together into 8 teams of 4 and only had 3days to make a game using the theme "Sci-Fi". The students showed incredible teamwork and collaboration skills, producing 8 awesome games! They were then tasked with presenting their games to a panel of industry professionals from Supermassive Games Ltd & DPS Games, showcasing their planning and development of their games, ending with a live demonstration. The students got a chance to win some amazing prizes and then have their questions about the gaming industry answered. A huge thank you to Michael McDonald, Mike Harman, Dylan Beale, Nik Bowen & Mike Burnham for coming and supporting the Game Jam, the students and I really appreciated it! Thank you also to Surrey Careers Hub for helping set up this collaboration. Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/eb_-kq-d

For the very first time, Oxted School had the exciting opportunity to host Louise and Andy from the Royal Navy Engagement Team. Students from years 7 to 10 kicked off the day with an energizing physical challenge, before hearing directly from our guests about the essential skills needed to be part of the Royal Navy. Next, students were split into small groups and given a fun, hands-on challenge: using the equipment provided, they had to design and build a moving vehicle capable of transporting a large bag across the gym. This task emphasized the importance of teamwork, communication, and problem-solving – skills that are critical to life in the Royal Navy. The top-performing teams earned extra house points for their effort and innovation. In the afternoon, our guests hosted an open presentation for all students who registered. They shared insight into the wide variety of roles available within the Navy and highlighted the many benefits of joining this prestigious branch of the armed forces. Thank you to Rosie Roberts from Surrey Careers Hub for the opportunity #RoyalNavyCareers #navyra-engagementteam
