Our Chief Programmes Officer, Miléna Castellnou, had the privilege of attending the Global Education Meeting 2024 convened by UNESCO in Fortaleza last week. 🇧🇷 It was wonderful to witness the growing interest in innovative financing. There was a real buzz around this subject in plenaries and the parallel session on Innovative Financing for Education during which Milena shared our experience and perspective on the role of Outcomes-Based Financing to achieve greater impact for children. Some take outs👇 ✅ The value-add of different innovative financing mechanisms is a conversation that lots of people want to have and it was good to see such a range of views expressed ✅ Some instruments are better suited to leverage more diverse sources of financing to address the huge financing gap to achieve SDG4, while others have a different role to play to ensure that existing and new funding leads to greater impact ✅ The #FortalezaDeclaration calls for investing more, more equitably and more efficiently in education – and perhaps we should also add ‘more effectively’! ✅ At EOF we’re very pleased to welcome the reference to #ResultsBasedFinancing and #SocialImpactBonds as innovative financing instruments for Governments to leverage It was also a pleasure to participate in the side event on Innovative Financing to Achieve Inclusive and Equitable Early Childhood Care and Education, which we co-convened together with UNESCO, UNICEF, OMEP WORLD and Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN). We look forward to continuing the conversation after all the inspiring conversations and bilateral meetings! #SDG4 #LeadingSDG4 #OutcomesBasedFinancing #InnovativeFinance #GlobalEducation

💰 Exploring the use of innovative finance in education 🏫 As the global education community gathers for the 2024 Global Education Meeting this week to assess progress on SDG4, a major focus will be on strategies to boost investment in education and scale innovative financing strategies. To support this effort, we’re resharing two blogs exploring the use of outcomes-based financing in education. These blogs capture insights from a learning group on innovative finance in education, co-facilitated by the Education Finance Network and The Education Outcomes Fund. Strengthening learning and knowledge sharing around innovative financing is essential to scaling the effective use of these tools, and we hope the blogs contribute to that conversation. 📣Our Chief Operating Officer Max McCabe will be speaking at the FT Africa Summit tomorrow. Max will be joining the 17.20 BST panel on Unlocking Africa’s Potential – Building Successful Domestic Businesses. With 70% of 10 year olds in low – middle income countries unable to read and understand a simple text and two thirds of skills programmes having zero impact on unemployment, business as usual in education is not working. So Max will focus on the role of Outcomes-Based Financing in closing the education and skills gap. It’s a fantastic panel moderated by Andrew Hill, Senior Business Writer at the Financial Times and will also see contributions from👇 🗣 Mo Ibrahim, Founder and Chair of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation 🗣 Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development 🗣 Nieros Soerensen, Partner and Chief Operating Officer of Verod Capital Management 🗣 Moh Damush, CEO of Telecel Looking forward to a great discussion. #FTAfrica #OutcomesBasedFinancing #InnovativeFinance #Education #Skills https://lnkd.in/dcXxxbVw

This is a great read and such a valuable resource for anyone pondering the challenge of how to bridge the gap between needs and funding in the humanitarian system. We were pleased to contribute to the section on how Outcomes-Based Financing can play a part in the broader landscape of humanitarian impact finance. The Sierra Leone Education Innovation Challenge case study outlines how an outcomes based approach is enabling service providers to tackle low educational outcomes and contribute to national education objectives. It was great working with Maximilian Martin, Ph.D. on this. Together, we push for financing that reaches the most vulnerable, because education is a right, not a privilege. #UNGA79
#UNGA79 "We have 4 key initiatives: #ECW, #IFFed #GPE & the #EOF. The Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown former UK PM & United Nations Special Envoy for Global #Education, he conceived 3 of them. He emphasizes that financing is the main obstacle & urges us to look beyond self-interest. There's an abundance of resources & a true entrepreneur recognizes there's enough for everyone." ~ ECW Executive Director Yasmine Sherif 📍BTS Spark
