Thomas Sinden are pleased to announce the successful completion of a cladding remediation project in Central London, delivered one week ahead of schedule! This project involved the removal and replacement of all combustible cladding elements on a fully occupied, eight-storey mixed-use building, now EWS1 compliant, ensuring the building meets the latest fire safety standards. Located in a busy Central London location, the project required careful planning to minimise disruption to residents and businesses. With 50 residential units and two commercial units (Tesco and Nando’s) remaining occupied, the team worked closely with the building management company and store managers to coordinate noisy works, maintain safe customer access, and facilitate deliveries. Additionally, due to the building’s proximity to a rail network, a BAPA agreement was secured before works commenced. Now complete, the building meets the latest fire safety standards, ensuring long-term safety and peace of mind for residents and businesses. The project’s successful and timely completion was a result of strong collaboration with the client, consultants, and supply chain. We’re proud of the outcome and the positive impact these improvements will have for those living in the building. #CladdingRemediation #FireSafety #BuildingSafety #EWS1 #Recladding

We recently asked our team to describe the construction industry in three words for someone considering a career in the field. One word that kept coming up..... REWARDING! From the pride of building something tangible to the endless opportunities for growth and innovation, construction offers a career like no other. What three words would you use to describe the industry? Drop them in the comments!

A fantastic line-up today for The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) annual conservation conference, this time on the theme of: Engage, involve, empower. Thank you to my co-hosts for the day - and key members of our Heritage Advisory Panel - Rebecca Thompson, Stewart Wright and Mark Hosea. Plus a big thank you to our delegates who threw themselves into the day as we tried to do something a little different, focussing on sharing the creativity and ingenuity that comes from talented #heritage and #conservation professionals - we held our first ever drawing competition, encouraging our audience to show off their creativity. We had some great entries – well done to our 3 winners. 👏 Our speakers also leaned into the theme and covered some important topics. A couple of highlights: For a really creative approach to construction training, Scott McGibbon talked about the gamification of learning, with an immersive system to get people properly engaged while in a safe environment. He also talked up the construction industry and made the case that there are some brilliant roles available in our sector. Colin Bignell spoke about some of the challenges on the OWO (Old War Office) project in the heart of London. His comment that professionals look to strike the “balance between preserving our heritage and protecting our buildings” summed up so many of the key issues conservation professionals face. I also found Daahir Mohamed‘s talk resonated with me, outlining some practical work to encourage more people into construction, particularly looking to encourage those from more diverse backgrounds, including refugees and asylum seekers – as a community, this is something we don’t often talk about but is something that should be part of conversations re. tackling the skills gap. Thank you very much to all our speakers – all brilliantly engaging and knowledgeable, contributing to an excellent event. I also want to thank all our supporters and sponsors – thank you for joining us today: Hutton + Rostron Environmental Investigations Ltd (A SOCOTEC Company) Selectaglaze Retrofit Secondary Glazing DBR Limited Leviat in the UK and Ireland Kene | B Corp™ Paye Stonework & Restoration Ltd Thomann-Hanry® Thomas Sinden Limited @walterlilly1924 Welsh Slate English Heritage Plus many thanks to Sadie Brandon, Aimee Fisker CMgr FCMI, Sophie Wood, Kate Macbeth FCIM, Nicola James, Josh Pennock, Kate Allen and all the rest of the #CIOB team who helped to organise such a great event. Thank you for all your hard work. #CIOBConservation #restoration #SkillsGap #BuiltEnvironment #construction #retrofit #procurement #architecture #HistoricBuildings #ModernProfessional #CIOB #CPD

This week, some of our team visited Orchard Hill College to speak with students about careers in construction! Tying in with Women in Construction Week, our Senior Design Manager, Alma Idrizovic Williams, was keen to encourage the next generation, showing that construction is a great industry for everyone, with many opportunities to build a rewarding future. She was joined by Hasan Emre Kose, Quantity Surveyor, and Terry Floyd, Social Value Manager. It was fantastic to meet such enthusiastic students and share insights into the industry. Hopefully, we sparked some interest in the many career paths construction has to offer! #WomenInConstruction #CareersInConstruction #FutureBuilders #OrchardHillCollege #ConstructionIndustry #Loveconstruction

Project Update: Our two sites at Ebbsfleet Green, where we are delivering two new community buildings, are making great progress! Our latest drone images highlight the development so far. Weldon Heart Building – The CLT frame, delivered from a factory in Northern Spain, is now fully erected. Work will now begin on the roofing and façade. Meanwhile, over at the Weldon Wellbeing Pavilion – The RC framework is well underway, and external groundworks are starting to take shape. In the coming weeks, we’ll see the CLT frame arrive and further progress on external areas. 📸 Swipe through the latest drone shots! #ConstructionProgress #EbbsfleetGreen #CommunityBuildings #LoveConstruction
