I am still on a mission to turn the tide on the employment statistics for young people with SEND. As such I'm looking to bring together a number of employers who can help me fly the flag and act as real Avengers in this space. This won't be a talking shop though. I need people who will roll their sleeves up, and be the voice for the young people who are most at risk. With youth unemployment nearing 1 million across the country. We can and must do better! A Day of Learning, Collaboration, and Inspiration What a fantastic way to wrap up National Careers Week! 🎉 Today, we had the privilege of introducing two careers professionals from Denmark, Karina Meinecke and Stine Nedelkovski to the work of the Careers Hub. We were hosted at The Bemrose School and Sixth Form by Claire J A. and Executive Headteacher Neil Wilkinson, for an insightful exchange on careers education. This visit provided a valuable opportunity to explore the similarities and differences in how careers is delivered across countries. Our guests were warmly welcomed by the Year 6 House Captains and 3 fabulous Y7 & 8 ambassadors during a tour of our primary and secondary phases, followed by an engaging Careers Hub information session. Over lunch, the students shared their perspectives of careers education, along with Head of Secondary Martin Rowe. The visit concluded with a Q&A session, reinforcing the importance of global collaboration in shaping impactful career education. As part of National Careers Week, 22 teachers from across the EMCCA region visited Experian today in Nottingham through the EMCCA Careers Hub’s Teacher Encounters programme. This experience gives educators direct insight into the workplace, helping them connect classroom learning to career opportunities. Teachers will explore Experian’s roles, recruitment process, and skills expectations, gaining knowledge they can take back to their students. The agenda includes an office tour, a group activity mirroring student experiences, and discussions on development programmes and skills gaps. Strengthening these links between education and employment ensures young people are better prepared for the future. A great way to celebrate National Careers Week in action. EMCCA Careers Hub is proud to support another fantastic apprenticeship event, this time in partnership with Chesterfield Borough Council! On Wednesday 26th February, we joined forces to deliver an engaging parental engagement event, ensuring young people and their families could explore the wealth of apprenticeship and technical education opportunities available in the local area. Attendees heard from Amazing Apprenticeships, followed by two insightful panel discussions featuring local employers and apprenticeship providers, all sharing their expertise and experiences. EMCCA Careers Hub is proud to support a series of parental engagement events designed to raise awareness of apprenticeship opportunities for young people and their families. Tonight, Derby City Council hosted a fantastic event at the Indian Community Centre in Normanton—right at the heart of the local community. Attendees heard from Amazing Apprenticeships, followed by an insightful panel discussion led by E.ON , Derby College and an apprentice from Severn Trent. With nearly 100 attendees, the event provided a valuable opportunity for young people and parents to connect directly with employers and explore exciting apprenticeship pathways. With thanks to Sabina Talib and her team for their hard work in bringing this event to life, as well as to all the fantastic employers who supported and engaged with attendees throughout the evening: Derby College, Rolls-Royce, Chesterfield College, Betterweld Group Ltd, E.ON, Severn Trent, althaus, better gym, Derby Homes, Birds , Derbyshire Constabulary, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and The Jamie Simpson Trust.
