In times of crisis, communities can feel the effects of a disaster for weeks, months, or even years. While buildings are rebuilt and roads repaired, the psychological impact of such events often lingers, affecting many long after the disaster has passed. Health care workers embody a dual identity during disasters—serving both as first responders and survivors. As they work on the front lines, addressing the health needs of their communities, they simultaneously cope with the emotional toll and personal challenges brought on by the disaster. Mountain Community Health Partnership is doing exactly that—serving as one of the key organizations responding to the aftermath of #HurricaneHelene. They are actively supporting their community members, first responders, search and rescue teams, and health care providers to ensure both their physical and emotional well-being are being taken care of. #Americares has not only supported them with essential resources but is also gearing up to provide psychological support to their team. At Americares, we aim to #HelptheHelpers by addressing the #MentalHealth needs of both the community and the staff as they recover from this devastating storm. #WorldMentalHealthDay #WMHD

"The rain from Hurricane Helene caused huge mudslides. Trees downed. Power lines downed. Water supplies have been cut off. The city of #Asheville itself is without running water and probably will be for weeks, if not longer." Adam Keehn, Director of Complex Emergencies at #Americares, shares how we’re responding to #HurricaneHelene in western #NorthCarolina. This powerful storm has devastated communities across multiple states, impacting access to essential needs like food, water and medical supplies. Americares is providing critical medicines, emergency funding, and mental health support to those affected. You can make a difference—help us bring relief by donating at https://lnkd.in/e7w6tBjx. Your contribution is crucial in supporting these impacted communities. #HurricaneHelene #HurricaneMilton #Americares

As we mark one year since the October 7 attacks on Israel, we pause to remember all those we lost and all of those across the Middle East region impacted by war. The ongoing violence continues to threaten lives and put the health of innocent civilians at grave risk. As we reflect on this anniversary, we join the call for peace, healing and the safety of civilians and humanitarian staff.
