These youth are hard at work preparing for next week’s clinical training in Eldoret, Kenya for health care providers who work with adolescents! Ashley Chory, PhD, and John Steever, MD, of the Arnhold Institute for Global Health trained them to role play, acting as "standardized patients," for the clinicians to practice with. They spent two days practicing scenarios on topics such as substance use, mental health, and teen pregnancy. Thank you to this young team so committed to improving #adolescenthealth! #AMPATHKenya #MountSinaiHealthSystem AMPATH Global

  • USAID AMPATH Uzima welcomed Keith Johnson, Director of Advocacy at the Fund for Global Health, during his visit to the Smart Primary Care Network (PCN) in Trans Nzoia County. The visit began with a meeting at Wamalwa Kijana Referral Hospital, where Mr. Johnson was received by County Director of Health, Dr. Zaietuni Mulaa, on behalf of the County Executive Committee Member for Health Services and Sanitation, Mr. Samson Ojwang’.  The visit aimed to explore the implementation of the Smart PCN, understand primary healthcare structures, and identify advocacy opportunities to strengthen healthcare systems. Mr. Johnson was joined by Chief of Party Prof. Sylvester Kimaiyo, Deputy Chief of Party Dr. Beatrice Jakait, Chief Technical Officer Dr. Douglas Gaitho, Senior Technical Officer Dr. James Mairura, and RMNCAH Program Manager Nobrah Mutuku.  At Endebess Sub-County Hospital, the team began with a tree-planting ceremony to commemorate the visit before observing the facility’s operations. They later toured Chepchoino Dispensary, where CHPs welcomed them with traditional dances and showcased their work, including nutrition counseling, linking mothers to care, and conducting health screenings. The CHPs also shared challenges such as limited transportation, digital tools, and training needs.  Key discussions highlighted issues like incomplete theatre units, limited internet connectivity, and budgetary constraints. Recommendations included equipping CHPs with motorbikes to enhance their mobility, digitizing job aids, standardizing smartphones, and expanding training on initiatives such as the Baby-Friendly Community Initiative (BFCI). The visit concluded with warm gestures of gratitude. The CHPs presented Mr. Johnson with a shawl to thank him for donor support that has enhanced their community impact. USAID AMPATH Uzima also gifted him a token of appreciation, celebrating shared efforts to strengthen primary healthcare and sustainable solutions.
