Mentorship is a key part of our mission at Asakura Robinson. By providing opportunities for young minds to learn from industry professionals, we hope to inspire the next generation of planners, urban designers, and landscape architects. We recently had the privilege of hosting local high school students at our Austin office through @aiadesignvoice. We gave the students an inside look at the AEC industry and our company. Our team introduced the students to some of our projects and guided them through a hands-on session to design compositions. Do you know someone who dreams of a career in planning, urban design, and/or landscape architecture? Tag them in the comments below! @aiaaustin

The Woodlands was conceived as a community nestled within nature and surrounded by protected open spaces. Over the years, this vision has blossomed into a network of over 150 parks and 220 miles of pathways. Asakura Robinson and Pros Consulting conducted a comprehensive assessment of the parks system with the goal of understanding current recreation needs and future trends. The focus was on examining park facilities and amenities to better serve the community's needs. This effort included analyzing demographics, recreation trends, public engagement feedback, and survey data to develop valuable recommendations. The engagement process involved Village Association Meetings and an online survey that garnered 2,000 responses, confirming the vital role of the parks and recreation system in the community's quality of life. The final report not only identifies the current challenges but also presents guidelines and strategies to harness resources for addressing immediate community needs while promoting long-term goals for recreational tourism and economic development. You can find the full report on our website, link below. Interested in optimizing your community resources and planning for a resilient future? Contact us today for a consultation, we'd love to hear from you! Special thanks to: The Woodlands Township PROS Consulting https://buff.ly/4bqOTrE

🌳💚 Don’t skip out on tree protection. Check out these tips that will help you save money and time down the road. 1. Have a certified arborist assess the health of existing oak trees well before construction. Determine any pre-construction treatments necessary to minimize impact on tree health.  2. When possible, tree protection fencing should be at, or outside, of the tree's drip line. 3. When trees are within the limit of work and cannot be protected by tree protection, ensure any trenching needed within the tree's drip line is done manually. Under no circumstance should heavy machinery, vehicles, and material storage ever be within a tree's drip line. Need a little more professional help? We're in the business of sustainable and cost-saving solutions, contact us today (link in bio).

Last week's H-GAC's 2024 Livable Centers Series Roundtable 2 was a fantastic space to learn and share in-depth knowledge about human-centered metrics in transportation projects. During the event, Asakura Robinson's Ranjan Roy had the opportunity to speak on the metrics of successful engagement. A BIG thank you to the H-GAC team for making this enlightening event possible!

The ongoing development and progress of Texas A&M University and the City of College Station have sparked a need for new facilities, housing options, and job opportunities near the flagship campus. Asakura Robinson provided planning and urban design services to the City of College Station, envisioning a dynamic urban gateway to Texas A&M University and revitalizing the city’s original commercial hub. Our team's efforts involved conducting scenario modeling, formulating the plan’s recommendations and analyses, and crafting conceptual and illustrative graphics to convey the desired outcomes of the plan. This included estimating housing units, retail and office spaces, and tax revenues to showcase the potential impacts of various land use mixes and intensities. After receiving community feedback on the scenarios, the project team collaborated with City staff to refine a preferred scenario. This scenario included detailed recommendations for street sections, land use changes, and urban design standards. Take a moment to explore some of our scenario visualizations from the project, and feel free to reach out to us today to embark on your next planning or urban design endeavor. Special thanks to: Texas A&M University City of College Station

👀 Did you know that Freedman's Town, nested in what Houstonians commonly refer to as "Midtown" and "Fourth Ward", was the FIRST urban settlement in Houston founded by formerly enslaved people? At last week's Bayou Green Hour, Charonda Johnson (@fta_freedmens_town_4ever) presented an in-depth exploration of the history of Freedman's Town and a sample of one of the area's original bricks made from Buffalo Bayou mud!
