    Customers close deals. Reference calls have been critical to our work at Champion over the last 18 months... -Advising customers: Gaining insights into processes through analyzing thousands of reference calls. -Closing deals: Utilizing our own product to match customer references and close deals. -Building our company: Conducting reference calls for new hires, vendors, and investors. -Refining our product: And of course, creating an actual product to amplify the impact of customer references! In big transactions, people want the details of others' experiences. Trust and validity come from this. And this is a moment to stand out. Here are some learnings we've had for GTM teams to create WOW experiences from reference calls that drive results: 📅 Be proactive: Have references lined up, ready to go, and offer them proactively and early, rather than scrambling when a request comes in at the late stage of a deal. You wouldn't go into a job hunt process without defining references, and you shouldn't with a deal, as well (we're working on data right now for the impact of bringing them in early in the process. Stay tuned.) 🔗 Make it a networking opportunity. Your connection should be such a great match, it's a networking opportunity on both sides. And you should get associated with the value add. To do this, create a diverse pool of references and use cases, and avoid just burning out the same person, over and over. 📝 Prepare your references: Don't just let the call happen - take time to brief references. They want to help, so prep them accordingly on the types of question they may get. 👍 Follow up: Again don't be left flatfooted with another item on your to-do. Have it all aligned beforehand and keep your reference in the loop just as you would a teammate. Every step of a great sales process needs to be a HECK YES for the buyer and a GREAT experience for your customer reference that further strengthens your relationship with them.
