Equivalency Determination (ED) and Expenditure Responsibility (ER) are the tools American grantmakers use to give tax-advantaged donations to international charities. Both ED and ER allow grantmakers to fund non-exempt entities, but there are situations where one may be more useful than the other. CAF America offers an “Enhanced Expenditure Responsibility”, combining the heightened internal due diligence that resembles that of ED with the flexibility offered by traditional ER. Learn more about cross-border giving tools and our grantmaking services in our blog: https://lnkd.in/eHgdCQgh

Since 2022, CAF America and our donors have contributed $150,000 in grants toward dual education and job training programs to Centro Educativo Los Tréboles, our grantee partner in Montevideo, Uruguay. The Center strives to enhance the development of disadvantaged children, adolescents, and families in order to curb unemployment and poverty in the region. We’re inspired by their innovative initiatives that have transformed the lives of over 700 people in Montevideo. In May, legislators introduced the new Foreign Grant Reporting Act. If enacted, this legislation would require public disclosure of grants made by intermediaries, such as CAF America. We are actively monitoring the status of the proposed Foreign Grant Reporting Act as it moves through Congress and will provide updates as they become available. Read our news alert to learn more about this legislation and its potential impact on CAF America’s work and the philanthropic industry: https://lnkd.in/ec-WVyUa

We were thrilled to welcome Guillermo Correa to CAF America Headquarters last week as we explored opportunities to develop our partnership with RACI Argentina. During our conversations, we discussed the Argentinian philanthropic landscape and the current poverty levels reaching upwards of 57%, and identified areas of collaboration to maximize the impact of cross-border grants on international development. We look forward to growing our shared philanthropic impact in Argentina and around the world!

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts a spike in the frequency and severity of active storms this hurricane season. As we prepare ourselves for the detrimental impact of hurricanes and tropical storms, we must consider the long-term effects extreme weather can have on communities and the environment. According to the World Food Programme, in 2022, nearly 258 million people around the world faced food insecurity. In the midst of this crisis, a number of our grantee partners are working hard to provide meals and increase food sustainability in South Africa. In May, a couple of our team members traveled to South Africa to visit a few of our grantee partners in the area as a part of our Site Visit program. We visited Generosity for Humanity, who operates a feeding program to improve food security and the lives of the impoverished communities in Manenberg, South Africa. Our team also visited Rise Against Hunger Africa and their Early Childhood Development centers, where they distribute free meals to children and provide education on the effects of child hunger. FoodForward SA works to reduce hunger in South Africa by safely and cost-effectively securing quality food and distributing it to local communities in need. Our grantee partner and Friends Fund partner, SA Harvest, addresses systemic issues in food insecurity, as they partner with business leaders and law firms to empower community-based businesses and education programs. They also develop solutions to reduce food waste footprints and enhance sustainability. Read more about SA Harvest's work in our Story of Impact: https://lnkd.in/g5zJiec6 CAF America is proud to partner with these organizations, as they work to combat food insecurity and support communities in need. We commend you all for your dedication to serving your communities.
