👼 Children in refugee settlements face immense challenges ranging from the trauma of fleeing conflict to the effects of war and displacement. To help them live to their full potential through 🎓education, we are equipping Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers and caregivers with vital skills in psychosocial support (PSS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). 🕗 Over the next three days in Itula Sub-County, Palorinya Refugee Settlement (Obongi District), 60 ECD teachers, 99% of whom are refugees from South Sudan, will participate in this training. This program is designed to enable educators to recognize and respond to signs of stress and trauma in young learners, such as withdrawal, aggression, or lack of focus. 💃 🕺 Through interactive sessions, teachers are learning creative and engaging activities they can replicate to create a safe and supportive environment for children. These activities help children process their emotions, build resilience and prepare for academic success. Our Regional Communications and Advocacy Workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, concluded on a high note! This dynamic and action-packed gathering brought together Communications and Advocacy leads from ChildFund International, ChildFund Mozambique, ChildFund Zambia, ChildFund The Gambia, ChildFund Uganda, ChildFund Sénégal ChildFund Ethiopia, ChildFund Kenya, ChildFund Guinea and ChildFund Sierra Leone to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and strengthen our collective impact. Key Highlights Included: ✅ Enhancing storytelling for fundraising. ✅ Communicating organizational impact more effectively. ✅ Advancing child and youth participation in advocacy. ✅ Strengthening thought leadership. ✅ Promoting learning and knowledge sharing. ✅ Advocacy for climate change. ✅ Tackling Online Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of Children. ✅ Generating evidence to support impactful advocacy. Excitingly, a new Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) tool is in development, which will enhance our teams’ capacity to better document and share outcome stories—covering key policy shifts, impactful non-policy changes, and more. A huge thank you to our incredible colleagues, Maureen Siele, Africa Region Communications Advisor, and Joshua Ongwae, Senior Advocacy Manager, Africa & Liaison to the African Union, for coordinating this impactful training. In communities like 6-year-old Meseno’s in Kenya, where clean water only became accessible last year, the difference it makes is almost beyond imagination. How do we listen to children? We can start by encouraging them to express themselves, whether in words or otherwise. At #COP29 and #COP16 last year, we aimed to bring a child’s perspective to the conversation about climate change. Our side event, “Echoes of Our Land From Voices of the Future,” offered a unique platform for children and youth from some of the communities most affected by drought, land loss and other climate-driven disasters. These children's artwork, poetry and other creations are a window into their direct experiences of the climate crisis. They tell a harrowing story of hardship, but also of hope and a shared vision for a sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/ek3iaGYz They've got the vision right.
