We are excited to open this #zerocarbon #masstimber building in Des Moines; apartment tenants will start moving into levels 2 and 3 on December 1st, and commercial tenants will be opening their spaces on the first floor in the spring. Our session at The American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter's conference this Monday, From Intentions to Impact, drew over 100 brave souls (who didn’t succumb to the post-lunch nap) and kept them entertained, engaged, and informed. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲? Before diving into your next project, consider energy efficiency first, electrify those buildings, and don't forget to snag those federal, state, and utility incentives while you're at it! 💡 We also dug into life cycle costs, including operational carbon (because why stop at just today when we can think about tomorrow’s planet too?). It’s all about making the best impact on your community, budget, and our lovely Earth. 🌍 Plus, we tackled the big questions: Is net-zero the right goal for every project? Can geothermal power heat both pools and animal shelters? (Spoiler: Yes, and yes—it's not just for polar bears 🐻❄️). Yesterday in Boston, WoodWorks Regional Director Patrick Duffy, P.E., New England Forestry Foundation's Vanessa Komada, and Boston University's Dennis Carlberg, Boston University kicked off a day of presentations on the critical relationship between healthy forests and robust markets for forest products and case studies on constructed mass timber affordable housing projects. We had a great time at the The American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter annual conference last week - Scott Cutler presented alongside the USDA and City of Des Moines about our experience in building zero carbon workforce housing!

Summer is coming to a close, which means there’s only a limited time left to gather your free veggies from the Salsa Garden planted by The Avenues of Ingersoll and Grand and the Woodland Heights Neighborhood Association! The garden is located in the streetscape planter beds right in front of the Star Lofts project. The construction fence comes down tomorrow, but the last of the veggies are still there and ripe for the picking! Thanks to these two great neighborhood organizations for such a fun summer idea!

And we are deeply grateful to the judges for awarding our Goldfinch Lofts project the second annual Innovation in Housing Pitch Competition Award! We are excited to work with Arch Icon and Anawim Housing to bring this unique project to fruition for the state of Iowa!
