In a September 2024 election for the Uganda Law Society, a male only Executive was elected with only one woman succeeding in a nine-member team. While several reasons have been debated for this phenomenon including the “bang” the table kind of campaign, #GenderConversations argues that gender norms that operate in a subtle way could have influenced the outcomes. Although Affirmative Action is controversial, it could have entrenched gender balance in the #ULS so that either gender is not excluded from leadership. #gendernorms; #socialnorms #genderequality #genderequity #ULS https://lnkd.in/dR4NFf4T

In this article #GenderConversations brings examples to support the view that not all gender and social norms are negative. We propose that research and development work should identify and promote positive norms alongside identifying negative norms and undermining them through interventions. #gendernorms #socialnorms #genderequality #conservation #greening https://lnkd.in/dwd_qs2S

In this article, #GenderConversations advances the idea that strengthening agency and tackling gender and social norms are critical for gender justice in land matters. While it is remarkable to enact laws and progressive policies, we must go beyond this to implement holistic approaches that will ensure gender equitable ownership and control over land. #land #genderequality #socialnorms #gendernorms #womenrights https://lnkd.in/deRj5iHt

In this article, Nnyombi Aloysious explores how high-ranking officials leverage informal systems to undermine formal rules and community solidarity against the abuse of entrusted power. He also discusses the implications of these informal systems for anti-corruption efforts, emphasizing the necessity of understanding how social norms sustain these informal behaviours.

In this Article #GenderConversations contends that “light touch” gender norms transformation approaches are frequently ineffective leading to unsustainable results. Gender norms shifting work requires intensive investment in terms of time, human resources, development, and deployment of appropriate tools as well as research and evaluation that captures what works or not for sustainability. #gendernorms #socialnorms #genderequality #investment https://lnkd.in/dMA86Rwp
