The #VillarsSymposium was a remarkable confluence of exceptional opportunities, profound knowledge sharing, and inspirational leadership. It provided our Franklin School students with a dynamic platform for intellectual exchange and collaboration, fostering innovative ideas and transformative insights. The distinguished leaders who graced the event not only inspired with their visionary perspectives but also catalyzed meaningful dialogues, underscoring the symposium's pivotal role in shaping future thought and practice. We look forward to our The Villars Institute fellows returning to inspire the rest of our community.

So excited to hear one of our Franklin School students has been accepted into the Villars Eco-Preneurship program after listening to this call for collaboration with the business sector that is so often pitched as the opposition in the battle to stay within planetary boundaries. The final piece of key advice from Cameron Hepburn was to see your opposition as potential collaborators by being curious about their ‘why’ and if you dig down deep enough into their ‘why’ you just might find the common ground from which you can build consensus and a shared vision and mission.
🌿Recap of our plenary session: The Economics of Thriving Within Planetary Boundaries🌎💰 How do we prosper within planetary boundaries? This was the question discussed in a lively panel session which featured leading educators, experts and an ecologist on how to redesign economies to work both for our natural ecosystem services and future financial growth. 🎯There is an urgent need for transformative change to address interconnected environmental crises and changing the economic model is imperative. 🎯The current economic system is flawed and needs to prioritize sustainability, equity and justice. 🎯A new economic framework is needed - one that values natural capital. 🎯Prosperous economies should not only be measured by economic growth but also in terms of contribution to society and the environment. Introduced by Cameron Hepburn, Battcock Professor of Environmental Economics, University of Oxford With Jane Madgwick, Executive Director, Global Commons Alliance Marco Lambertini, Convener, Nature Positive Initiative Michael Schaepman, President, University of Zurich Moderator Dan Esty, Hillhouse Professor of Environmental Law & Policy, Yale School of the Environment and Yale Law School #EnvironmentalEconomics #SustainableFinance #PlanetaryBoundaries
