We’re excited to partner with CGS Architects once again for the AIA|DC CANstruction event! This creative design-build competition brings architecture, engineering, and construction firms together to build incredible sculptures using cans and nonperishable food items, all of which are donated to the Capital Area Food Bank to support those facing food insecurity. Last year, our team built an Espresso Machine with over 3,000 cans and earned an Honorable Mention for the "Best Caffeinated Structure." This year, we’re aiming to NAIL it with a hammer and nails sculpture! You CAN make a difference by donating to our team. Throwback Thursday: Raymond Recreation Center Completed in 2013, the Raymond Recreation Center project revitalized a key community space in Northwest, DC. This two-phase project began with the demolition of an outdated facility and the construction of a new, 24,000-square-foot, two-story recreation center. Now a hub for community activities, the center features a gymnasium with a regulation high school basketball court, a weight room, computer room, game room, three multi-purpose rooms, and more. The outdoor spaces include synthetic turf athletic fields, multi-purpose courts, playgrounds, and a partially green roof. Despite the challenges of working adjacent to an operational elementary school, GCS-SIGAL ensured the playground remained accessible for community use throughout construction. Built to LEED Silver standards, this project exemplifies our commitment to sustainability and enhancing community spaces. #TBT #RaymondRecreationCenter #CommunityBuilding #Sustainability #LEEDSilver

Project Update: Guardian Apartments We’re excited to share the latest progress on our Guardian adaptive reuse project! With the building topped out and the tower crane removed, work is rapidly advancing to transform it into a luxury multi-family apartment community. The building's skin is being installed, and the signature fins that stretch from the second floor to the penthouse will soon complete the facade. These fins will be beautifully illuminated in the evening and nighttime hours. Check out these new photos showcasing the incredible progress our team has made. Project Spotlight: Guardian Apartments We're thrilled to share a blog post from our partners at Swirnow Building Systems, highlighting the use of the Hambro D500 Structural Floor Joist System in our Guardian Apartments, adaptive reuse project. This project is a remarkable transformation of an office building into modern residential apartments, featuring a six-floor vertical addition. The lightweight Hambro system allowed us to expand the building by 75,000 sq. ft. while minimizing the impact on the existing structure.
