🚀Last week we launched a project inception workshop in collaboration with the Somali NGO Consortium with the aim to support local organizations to harness the power of Information Management and Data in #Somalia 🇸🇴 We gathered 20 local NGOs under the SNC to introduce the project's focus, goals, and collaborative steps forward. This session also served as a vital platform for discussing the challenges faced, including funding obstacles and the pressing need for capacity building to enhance localization efforts in Somalia. Our joint project is designed to ensure that every NGO in the SNC has access to timely, reliable, and high-quality data, enabling them to overcome challenges and strengthen evidence-based decision-making. Together, we are committed to fostering a more localized and impactful humanitarian response. What a group of minds and wealth of experience brought together for the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination #UNDAC workshop on #Assessment and #Analysis 🇺🇳 It is essential that we discuss how we can continuously improve the way we inform the different key stakeholders and decision-makers during a sudden-onset disaster. What was different this year than the previous? We were able to inject into the cycle of Respond > After Action Review > Train > Respond - additional space to pause, come together and make progress on the lessons learned and how we train to enhance our readiness as a collective group during such an inter-agency workshop over a full 5 days. Thanks to the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the United Nations OCHA for bringing everyone together. What did we make progress on? 🛰 enhanced coordination on impact analysis during the -3 and post 3 day period with the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT), European Commission, Pacific Disaster Center - PDC Global, World Food Programme, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC 🚁 enhanced readiness to better utilize and coordinate aerial assessments and use of #drones to rapidly fill information gaps remaining from Satellite imagery with a global dedicated task force in the making. 🧠 Exolore the latest tools to speed up digesting data and reports to allow more time to make sense of the data and collaborate with partners more frequently on joint analysis 🏢 The important efforts of OCHA and agencies to work with responsible government's NDMA and regional bodies during blue sky times and what preparedness plans exist to quickly assess through established networks in the case of an emergency 🏘 When and how to ensure the needs of the affected population are considered through community-based assessments in a timely manner to inform the response at the right time and the key role national Red Cross Red Crescent societies can play in this. It was a pleasure to participate as an UNDAC member representative with thanks to Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada alongside everyone and see this great collaborative effort by all participating agencies 👏 International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC World Health Organization World Food Programme UNICEF IOM - UN Migration UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency IMPACT Initiatives ACAPS Data Friendly Space (DFS) theDEEP MapAction Atlas Logistique iMMAP Inc.
