HII’s #IngallsShipbuilding division along with representatives from the U.S. Navy, Accelerate Mississippi and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC), celebrated the opening of a virtual reality (VR) welding lab at the shipyard Wednesday. The new facility makes it easier and safer for welders to hone their skills, and enhance HII’s ability to grow the number of proficient shipbuilders with this essential skillset. Saturday, shipbuilders will officially christen Harrisburg (#LPD30) at HII's #IngallsShipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. Named after the capital city of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, LPD 30 will be the US Navy's 14th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship and the first Flight II in the class. The ceremony will honor our shipbuilders, sailors, and the ship’s sponsors, Mrs. Alexandra Curry, a resident of Middletown, Pennsylvania, and wife of the Middletown mayor and Mrs. Jennifer Díaz, a resident of Philadelphia alongside her husband Chris Díaz, a former Navy hospital corpsman with the Marines and now Chief of Staff to the Secretary of the Navy.
