When it came time to bring the Fallujah (LHA 9) design to life, shipbuilders from both Ingalls and Avondale locations rolled up their sleeves to tackle the task of updating and revising the baseline Bougainville (LHA 8) design. To kick off March of the Mayors, dozens of Ingalls Shipbuilders volunteered to pack over 10,000 meals of red beans and rice during Extra Table’s Extra Full food packing initiative. This event was aimed at fighting food insecurity in Mississippi, a cause important to our shipbuilders. Way to go team, for making an impact on those in need! HII’s #IngallsShipbuilding division along with representatives from the U.S. Navy, Accelerate Mississippi and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC), celebrated the opening of a virtual reality (VR) welding lab at the shipyard Wednesday. The new facility makes it easier and safer for welders to hone their skills, and enhance HII’s ability to grow the number of proficient shipbuilders with this essential skillset. HII’s #IngallsShipbuilding division began fabrication of the U.S. Navy’s newest San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock Philadelphia (LPD 32) Monday.
