ICA members are helping to deliver a low carbon future by producing copper responsibly and according to international standards. Learn more about the Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative (CMSI) ⤵️
As we transition towards a low carbon society we need much more metal to produce and transport clean energy. This should be done responsibly and with transparency. The consolidated mining standard, now out for consultation, will help raise the bar for responsible mining across the industry - it needs to hear your voice, share it here: https://lnkd.in/eafr_Dvq

This week, ICA hosted an exclusive exchange with Senior Policy Officer Robert Tomas from the European Commission and Boliden President and CEO Mikael Staffas to discuss the current EU landscape for the copper industry, moderated by International Copper Association Europe Regional Director General Quentin de Hults. As ICA President Juan Ignacio Diaz put it, "ICA is the right partner for the EU to maintain and develop a resilient copper supply chain. Our members have projects to increase capacity in the EU and abroad. By working with regulators, we can create the conditions to deliver these projects and strengthen global partnerships." ICA is proud to facilitate exclusive programming like this for our members. Thank you to all who participated in this discussion at our final #ICAatLMEW24 event.
This morning, the International Copper Association held a member-exclusive breakfast in London to discuss the EU Commission's strategy for raw materials like #copper. We would like to thank the speakers Robert Tomas, Mikael Staffas, Juan Ignacio Diaz, Quentin de Hults, and all participants for their valuable interventions and engagement. As the voice of the copper industry, ICA is the right partner for the EU to maintain and develop a resilient and sustainable copper value chain. Quentin de Hults remarked, "There has never been such a political focus on raw materials, copper, and competitiveness. But beyond words, we need action and impact. The #CriticalRawMaterialsAct is a first step, and the #CleanIndustrialDeal will be a key complement." Thanks to Robert Tomas (DG GROW) for highlighting copper's crucial role in driving electrification, energy efficiency, and renewable energy growth. With 14 strategic partnerships and faster permitting for mining, refining, and recycling within the EU, Europe is strengthening its raw materials value chains, diversifying imports, and upholding the highest ESG standards. ICA members will continue to invest in Europe and abroad, enhancing the EU's green industrial objectives.
