In 2024, our national discourse and remembering our history is critical to our democracy. So, today, we’re introducing a modern, forward-looking brand for the keepers of America’s past. Meet the reimagined The New York Historical. For over two centuries, The New York Historical has preserved, collected and studied America’s history—all while championing nation-wide education programs and poignant events for the public. Ahead of its 220th anniversary and the creation of a new wing dedicated to democracy, we worked with New York’s first museum to reimagine its brand and tell its story, broadening perceptions and highlighting the museum as a living, active force that shapes who we are today. Its new name, The New York Historical, drops ‘Society’ to emphasize a sense of inclusive and open dialogue, and recontextualizes ‘Historical’ as a powerful, present collective noun. Its new identity is modern while still nodding to the museum’s history. And it’s all grounded in a clear brand idea: our nation in conversation. Congratulations to our partners at The New York Historical for this monumental achievement—we couldn’t be prouder to have been on this journey with you, and for all the journeys to come.
