This prestigious event was a significant milestone for us, providing a platform to showcase our dedication to advancing health equity and improving cancer care for underserved communities. At the conference, we highlighted our Patient Navigation Program, which offers comprehensive support from diagnosis through survivorship, ensuring culturally responsive and patient-centered care. Our participation allowed us to exchange valuable insights, collaborate with national healthcare leaders, and reinforce our commitment to providing equitable cancer care, particularly in North Baton Rouge. Special thanks to our team for their outstanding presentations and to all the incredible minds we connected with. This experience not only reaffirmed our mission but also inspired future innovations and collaborations. Life takes unexpected turns. For Mr. Blaise Paul, an engineer at Shell, a cancer diagnosis would go on to reshape his path in profound ways. Despite the challenges, the exceptional care he received at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center guided him through this chapter. From gym sessions with his son to navigating treatment with the help of Dr. Daniel LaVie, Blaise’s story is one of resilience and hope. The unwavering support from his care team and his strong faith helped him through each step. Today, he is in remission and continues to inspire those around him with his journey of faith and healing. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Vera Hendrix and Dr. Celeste Lagarde to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center team! 👏 Dr. Vera Hendrix, a breast surgical oncologist, graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, completed her general surgery residency at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and her breast surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. As the only oncology fellowship-trained breast surgeon on the Northshore, Dr. Hendrix is renowned for her clinical expertise and dedication to exceptional patient care. Dr. Celeste Lagarde, a breast surgical oncologist, completed her medical education, residency, and fellowship at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. She served as a Clinical Instructor of Surgery at LSU School of Medicine from 1980 to 1992 and advanced to Assistant Professor of Surgery from 1992 to 1993. Dr. Lagarde is celebrated for her clinical expertise and unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care. We are excited to add Breast Surgery to our services to be able to offer patients more comprehensive cancer care treatment.
