    Another day, another cautionary tale: Uber fined €290m for European data being sent to the US, breaching GDPR ❌ Generally speaking, there has been a loss of control when it comes to collecting and routing customer data. The prevalent use of disparate tracking technologies means businesses have limited ownership over how data is collected and users are tracked. This fragmentation leads to a diminished ability to enforce consistent governance, posing risks to data security, compliance, and overall strategy. To complicate this even further, most companies don't know what tracking tags are on their site, what data those tags are collecting, what those tags are doing, or where that data is going (is it staying in the EU, going to US servers?). And compliance teams are losing sleep. Rightfully so when the consequences result in hundreds of millions in fines. We are here to help. This approach allows you to send real-time event data to both GA and BigQuery with tailored filtering and transformation logic, streamlining your processes and saving resources.     Leveraging Google Big Query alongside Google Analytics for insights is a valuable pattern, but getting the two to play nice with data exchange can be tricky. Read on to see how you can use your Server-Side Tag Manager to harness the best capabilities of both GA and BQ! Google BigQuery (BQ) offers far more capabilities than just what Google Analytics (GA) provides for basic reporting and analysis. I've noticed an increasing number of companies duplicating their event data across both Google Analytics and BigQuery, only to discover that the export capabilities within GA fall short of their needs. While some may opt for cloud functions to handle exports—capturing, decompressing, filtering, and formatting data before it lands in BQ—there's a more streamlined solution worth considering. I highly recommend reading this fantastic article by James Cottrill that dives into these export techniques: [Clustering the GA4 Events Table](https://lnkd.in/eQvHZdfP). There are some drawbacks to such custom approaches though, so why not leverage the native event syndication capabilities of your Server-Side Tag Manager instead? By using a Server-Side Tag Manager, you can bifurcate the captured event stream to multiple destinations simultaneously at the moment of collection. This means you can send your event data to both GA and BigQuery in real-time, each with its own filter and transformation logic tailored to your specific use cases. James’s article highlights use cases like removing bots or filtering out employee traffic. A server-side tag manager (like MetaRouter) provides access to such filtering capabilities without the need for additional middleware logic—saving you time, resources, and processing costs. If your business is anything like the ones we’re working with, GA is just one of many consumers of your event data. When you factor in CDPs, paid media channels, personalization engines, and more, you’re often left with a domain cluttered with JavaScript API calls, pixels, and complex data export mechanisms.
