📢 Important Update for the Solar Industry The US government has taken a significant step to bolster domestic solar manufacturing! 🇺🇸☀️ In its latest guidance on the domestic content adder, the US Department of Treasury and the IRS have introduced clarified measures specifically designed to support US silicon wafer manufacturers - an action the solar manufacturing industry has long advocated for. The updated guidance includes separate domestic content cost percentages for projects using solar cells made with US-manufactured wafers. This adjustment is a crucial move toward strengthening the US solar supply chain and advancing clean energy goals. This is a win for domestic innovation, sustainability and job creation in the renewable energy sector. https://bit.ly/3Ck41vr #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #USManufacturing #PolicyUpdates #SolarIndustry

S&P Global published an insightful article on the challenging landscape of tariffs and supply gap that US solar manufacturers face. Key Point ➤ There's a "large gap between US solar module manufacturing capacity and the availability of domestic cells, wafers, ingots and polysilicon is prompting concerns that preliminary US tariffs on imported solar cells [that] could disrupt the emerging supply chains they are meant to protect." Mike Carr, Executive Director of Solar Energy Manufacturers for America (SEMA) Coalition comments, "the IRA, domestic content bonuses and tariffs, and other trade actions, are 'a three-legged stool,' and 'all of those things really have to work together.'" NexWafe's CEO Davor Sutija adds, "The IRA is supposed to allow industry to reestablish itself in North America." It'll definitely be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks and months! https://lnkd.in/e6qxy383 #Tariffs #Solar #InflationReductionAct #USmanufacturing

The environment for solar wafer manufacturing outside of the Chinese supply chain continues to improve. The incoming Administration is likely to have a focus on domestic content, and may strengthen the tax benefits for using solar panels with high levels of DC, and Customs and Border Protection continues to crack down on imports of solar products linked to forced labor. They have just added four Chinese wafer producers to the "entities list" under the UFLPA, meaning that these wafers and cells and modules made from them are presumptively barred from entering the US. This includes JA Solar, a major wafer producer. Several companies are making good progress on wafer capacity in the US; Corning Incorporated/Hemlock Semiconductor, NorSun and Qcells North America. NexWafe also continues to make great progress on their high throughput, low carbon wafer technology. All of these producers will make low carbon footprint wafers free of forced labor risks. Domestic cell and module producers should be preparing for reduced cell and wafer supplies from China, and mow is the time to be seeking arrangements for non-Chinese supply. https://lnkd.in/gbtuN526

📖 Leadership Chronicle: Inside NexWafe with Hilmi Yiğit EKER 📖 The Leadership Chronicles series poses questions to NexWafe executives about their career, professional experiences and the company. 🔹 Hilmi Eker, Head of Quality 🔹 Joined NexWafe February 2024 Excerpts from the full Q&A: Q: Tell us about your successful professional journey with a brief overview of your career. A: I began my career in sales and business development with early-stage startups and transitioned across various industries before choosing to build expertise in manufacturing. Upon gaining a master’s degree in strategic management, I took an engineering role at a global automotive supplier. Over nearly nine years with the company, I led multi-site product launches, contributed to the global implementation of the lean production system, owned a critical business process within a global digital transformation initiative, and managed the integration and scaling of the manufacturing engineering department from acquired businesses into corporate standards. My experience at the company equipped me with the confidence and skills to excel in leadership roles across diverse industries before joining NexWafe. Q: What were the major challenges for you during your initial days at NexWafe? A: I needed to quickly learn about NexWafe engineering and technology. The technology was very different from my automotive engineering background. To overcome these challenges, I actively connected with team members and engaged across various topics, allowing me to learn quickly and build strong relationships with the NexWafe team while gaining as much knowledge as possible about NexWafe's technology. Along with all this, I focused on establishing a new routine to adapt to my changing responsibilities. Q: How is it different working at a startup like NexWafe? A: It is fundamentally different in two ways. First, the team is dedicated to realizing NexWafe's noble goals that we all take pride in, and our team will go the extra mile to get the job done. It’s a very different culture from that of a mature automotive company. This united spirit enhances our resilience. Second, the lean organization and flat management hierarchy allows us to make decisions quickly and drive progress. However, my learnings from the mature automotive industry, which is the benchmark in quality and control, can bring key learnings to NexWafe as we transition to scale up our operations Full article here below! Nexwafe’s alternative route for solar wafer manufacturing Wafer manufacturer NexWafe has announced it has reached 24.4% efficiency on an M6 heterojunction cell, and that both TOPCon and heterojunction modules made using its wafers – which are produced in a deposition process – now match those using conventional Czochralski Process wafers. Nexwafe’s manufacturing process is unique in the silicon solar industry, and there are qualitative differences between its wafers and conventional ones – which is why this performance milestone is significant or indeed exists at all. #solar #solarwafer #renewables
