  • The Sarasota County Commission invited Sarasota County safety advisor and U.S. Army Veteran, Jeffrey White to lead Tuesday's Stormwater Workshop in the Pledge of Allegiance. White served 23 years in the U.S. Army as a Major. He served as an Artillery Officer with overseas service in Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iraq. White was also a Brigade Safety Officer and during his last tour, was the Deputy Logistics Officer at Guantanamo Bay. For his service, he has been awarded the Army Achievement Medal (5th award), Army Commendation Medal (5th award), Meritorious Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award), and the Bronze Star.   • Sarasota County Public Utilities Director Brooke Bailey has been selected as one of SRQ Magazine's 35 Under 35 honorees for this year. Bailey began serving as Director of Public Utilities in November 2023 in an interim capacity and was selected for the position in a permanent capacity in February 2024, after serving as Sarasota County's Water Division Manager for three years. Bailey has a master's degree in business from the University of Florida and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Miami University (Ohio). She has been working in the industry for 12 years. Bailey additionally served as the Charity Chair for Region X of the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA) and was the organization's Volunteer of the Year in 2024, was a Women of Water Forum panelist at the 2024 Florida Water Resources Conference and has recently earned her Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma, a quality management methodology for improving processes.   • The Sarasota County Commission invited Sarasota County Financial Specialist and U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, Christopher Soncrant to lead Wednesday's meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance. Soncrant served seven years in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Petty Officer Second Class. During his service, he was deployed to Kodiak, Alaska on the Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley to assist with search and rescue, and International/Domestic fisheries enforcement throughout the Bering Sea and the Aleutian Islands. For his service, he has been awarded the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Commandant's Letter of Commendation and the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation. Thank you for your service!

  • The Sarasota County Commission invited Sarasota County Heavy Truck Technician and U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, Lawrence Jack Lyon to lead Tuesday's meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance. Lyon served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Corporal. During his time in service, his unit went to Australia for training and had the opportunity to have a mock war with the Australian Army and the Marine Recon. He is active in his community, helping others with automotive service and serving with his local church. Thank you for your service!
