Yesterday, we were thrilled to welcome Liam & Kristi Hendriks to The Dimock Center! Liam, closing pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, and Kristi, founder of For the Field Apparel, toured our historic Roxbury campus and chatted with some of our frontline doctors, nurses, and members of our community outreach team about the issues our patients and families face, and what we are doing to create a healthier and more equitable Boston. Thank you to our longtime partner, the Red Sox Foundation, for coordinating this visit and continuing to partner with us to drive meaningful change in our community. ❤ Pictured from left to right: Boston Red Sox Community and Player Relations Director Caitlin Hanley, Dimock’s new Chief Medical Officer Dr. Monera Wong, Boston Red Sox closing pitcher Liam Hendriks, founder of For the Field Apparel Kristi Hendriks, Dimock President and CEO Dr. Charles Anderson, and Red Sox Foundation Giving and Partnerships Manager Matt McCarthy. #TheDimockDifference #Boston Boston Red Sox Red Sox Foundation

This past Friday, Dimock President and CEO Dr. Charles Anderson joined Bekah Salwasser, Executive VP of Social Impact for the Boston Red Sox and Executive Director of the Red Sox Foundation, and Chris Barr, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Philanthropic Partnerships at Takeda, for the #FoundationFriday NESN Red Sox pre-game broadcast! ⚾👍♥ Takeda and the Red Sox Foundation generously support the Dimock community through this partnership. From hosting luncheons to celebrate the strength and resilience of Dimock’s residents in recovery to helping pack over 2,500 hygiene kits with essential personal care items for people in need, their efforts impact thousands of Dimock community members each year. We are beyond grateful for our partnership with the Red Sox Foundation, which spans two decades. Thank you, Red Sox Foundation for all you do to support Dimock patients and families.

The Dimock Center’s outpatient services are closed today in recognition of Juneteenth. Juneteenth marks the day, more than two years after slavery was officially abolished, that more than 250,000 African Americans who were still living in slavery in Galveston, Texas learned that they were free. Today, Juneteenth is recognized as a federal holiday and is a celebration of the strength, courage, and resilience of Black communities. It's National Nurses Day! Did you know that in 1872 the country’s first nursing school started at The New England Hospital for Women and Children (now known as The Dimock Center?) The Goddard Nurses Home, located right on Dimock’s campus, provided living accommodations for up to 50 nurses and graduated the country’s first Black nurse to earn a professional nursing license in 1879! Community Health Centers like Dimock couldn’t provide care to over 30 million Americans each year without compassionate and hard-working nurses. We thank all the nurses who work in a range of settings for their tireless dedication to helping others today and every day 🤍 #ValueCHCs #NationalNursesDay #NursesWeek #CommunityHealth

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to come together to break the stigma surrounding mental illness. In the United States, 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness each year, and only half of them receive treatment. At Dimock, we offer a wide range of mental health supports on our 9-acre campus—from inpatient detox to outpatient counseling. We are proud to take a team approach to caring for our community members struggling with their mental health by offering integrated health and behavioral health care and treating the whole person, right where they live. If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health crisis: call, chat, or text 988 to speak with a trained crisis counselor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You are not alone 💙 #MHAM2024 #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthMatters

This week, Dimock was lucky to have 3 amazing volunteers from John Hancock join our Child & Family Services department for their Literacy Week book swap! Not only did they collect books to generously donate to our little ones, they even helped them pick their favorite books to bring home. Thank you, John Hancock, for helping make sure that all kids in our community have access to a wide variety of books and have positive experiences with reading early on! 💛

Today is the birthday of The Dimock Center’s namesake, Dr. Susan Dimock! Dr. Susan Dimock began her studies as an intern at the New England Hospital for Women and Children, now known as The Dimock Center. She became the hospital’s first resident physician and one of the first female physicians in the US recognized as a surgeon. Dimock crossed the threshold of the male-dominated world of medicine and became an internationally renowned doctor and surgeon, creating a legacy which has empowered women for generations to come. We are so grateful for Dr. Dimock’s countless contributions to the medical field and are honored to carry on her legacy today! #TheDimockDifference #WomensHistory
