After private equity firm KKR bought Potter Global Technologies, a manufacturer of fire protection equipment in St. Louis, employees learned they were being given an ownership stake in the company. The goal is for KKR to sell Potter Global Technologies five or so years later, for a profit. If that happens, workers will get payouts tied to their tenure, on top of salaries. If past sales are any indication, the money can be life changing. "We've been doing it, but now we're going to get benefits from it," a hopeful Potter employee, Debi Brumit, said.  https://lnkd.in/dhkuSmYv #employeeownership #60Minutes #privateequity

  • On this last day of #PreservationMonth, TTG showcases Orton Hall, one of the most prestigious landmarks of The Ohio State University's Columbus campus. The Tradesmen Group was selected by the university to replace the building’s shingle roof with a new, historically accurate tile roof. Using archived records, TTG craftsmen were able to manufacture new Ludowici Celadon tile so they exactly matched the original tiles installed in the 1800s. To support the added weight of the tile, TTG stabilized the existing roof with an additional 10 tons of structural steel framing and hangers. TTG also installed all new lead-coated, copper gutters and downspouts and fabricated a new ornamental copper cornice to replicate the more-than-100-year-old cornice around the bell tower. Work was completed in 2003. Named for Ohio State’s first president and geologist, Edward Orton Sr., Orton Hall is the only building in the world that was intentionally designed to reflect geologic time. Originally, the building was built exclusively of Ohio stone arranged in stratigraphic order, or rock layers. The main building represents the Paleozoic Era, with stones layered from Silurian at the base to Carboniferous near the top of the bell tower. The intricate stone carvings along the bell tower depict Mesozoic Era and Cenozoic Era animals, including dinosaurs, ichthyosaurs, pterosaurs and a saber-tooth cat. The iconic bell tower houses 25,000 pounds of bells, added in 1915, that chime every 15 minutes. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. #SavingPlaces #GoBucks

On Day 30 of #PreservationMonth, TTG showcases the Tomochichi Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Savannah, GA. The Tradesmen Group was selected by GSA to make architectural repairs on the courthouse tower, improve structural stabilization, then restore the tower’s marble façade, clay tile roof and copper gutters. For the project, TTG collaborated closely with general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC, preservation architects Hartman-Cox Architects and engineering firms Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc., RW Èngineering, Bennett Preservation Engineering PC and D.H. Charles Engineering, Inc. TTG and Universal Manufacturing Corp. installed extensive scaffolding over the existing tower, with special attention paid to protecting the roof and marble walls from impact of the scaffold system. Work is still underway on this active project. The Tomochichi Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse is an icon in the heart of Savannah’s historic district, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built between 1894-1899 and enlarged three decades later, the original portion of the building is constructed entirely of white Georgia marble; it features Italianate tripartite facade divisions characteristic of its Second Renaissance Revival style. Congress named the federal courthouse after Yamacraw Indian Chief Tomochichi, who befriended English settler General James Edward Oglethorpe and assisted him in creating the English colony that later became Savannah. #SavingPlaces

  • On Day 29 of #PreservationMonth, TTG showcases the United States Military Academy at West Point. The Tradesmen Group was selected to serve the US Army for historic masonry restoration. TTG performed a variety of masonry and concrete repairs, rehabilitation and replacement work, including granite stone wall reconstruction, stone and brick tuckpointing, stone cap lift and relaying, and stone cap replacement. TTG craftsmen also reconstructed brick and retaining walls and replaced concrete sidewalks and steps. Work was completed in 2020. West Point was originally established as a fort during the American Revolutionary War, as it sits on strategic high ground overlooking the Hudson River. It is the oldest of the five American service academies and educates cadets for commissioning into the United States Army. #SavingPlaces

On Day 28 of #PreservationMonth, TTG showcases the Percy Warner Allée in Nashville. The Tradesmen Group was selected by the Friends of Warner Parks and Metro Nashville/Davidson County to repair the significantly damaged historic stone entrance and landscape features of the Allée, while also addressing inadequate storm water drainage. TTG craftsmen excavated and re-graded areas to properly direct storm water flow to newly installed concrete catch basins and storm pipes. TTG installed new Crab Orchard flagstone throughout the Allée, plus restored all masonry hardscape walls. Finally, extensive landscape improvements included new reconditioned soil, new turf and plantings and a new irrigation system. Work was completed in 2020. Allée is French for “an alley in a park lined with trees.” Designed by the noted landscape designer Bryant Fleming in the 1930s, the structure includes mortared limestone columns, steps, terraces and curving walls. The Allée provides scenic views of the front entrance and introduces the scenic trail system of the park. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. #SavingPlaces
