Groundbreaking news from Tomorrow.io! 🚨 📡 🛰️ Tomorrow.io, the world's leading Resilience Platform™, today announced the successful launch of its first two microwave sounder satellites. This milestone marks a significant advancement for Tomorrow.io in transforming global weather forecasting, early warning systems, and climate resilience. These sounder-equipped satellites mark the next phase in Tomorrow.io's expanding constellation, aiming to provide unprecedented sub-hourly global atmospheric measurements of temperature, humidity, precipitation, and tropical cyclones—a first for the commercial sector. "With our microwave sounders, we can set a new standard in atmospheric data collection and prediction," said Rei Goffer, Co-Founder, and Chief Strategy Officer of Tomorrow.io, "This technology allows us to capture atmospheric data with exceptional accuracy, especially over oceans and remote areas where traditional observations are scarce.” The launch of these satellites comes at a crucial time in the advancement of AI technology. Tomorrow.io's expanding constellation of weather satellites is creating a critical missing link: high-resolution, global data for training and initializing AI models with real-time observations. This data will not only enhance the accuracy of Tomorrow.io's own models but also has the potential to significantly advance the field of weather prediction and climate modeling. This advancement builds upon Tomorrow.io's groundbreaking Pathfinder radar satellites (https://lnkd.in/gTJDzK9A) which launched in 2023 and have demonstrated performance that matches or exceeds NOAA's NEXRAD benchmark for rainfall measurement. (https://lnkd.in/g3PbyUi6) The addition of microwave sounders further expands the company's observational capabilities, with early data showing promising insights. The satellites are now undergoing initial commissioning, with preliminary datasets expected in the coming weeks. Tomorrow.io's sounder technology is derived from NASA’s TROPICS mission, and the company is concurrently set to rebuild NOAA’s digital infrastructure through the Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC) program. The company will continue expanding its constellation, advancing its Resilience Platform™ to address the growing challenges posed by extreme weather and climate change.

Super Typhoon Kong-Rey was recently detected by Tomorrow.io's Microwave Sounder satellites, capturing the storm's intense temperature anomalies. Initially forming west-northwest of Guam as a tropical depression on October 24, Kong-Rey rapidly intensified, becoming a super typhoon by October 28, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. This latest scan revealed some of the most extreme temperature anomalies recorded by our sounders to date. The Channel 5/6 data show that at 10 km altitude, Kong-Rey’s eye is more than 10 degrees Celsius warmer than its surroundings—a powerful indicator of the storm's intensity. Curious how Tomorrow.io's cutting-edge tech is enhancing typhoon forecasting and resilience planning? Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gpXFnwJq #SuperTyphoonKongRey #TyphoonSeason #WeatherIntelligence

More great data coming from our sounders! We typically get these images with 40 minute latency or better, critical for monitoring these rapidly intensifying storms.

Hurricane Kristy, which rapidly intensified into a powerful Category 5 storm in the eastern Pacific Ocean, was observed by Tomorrow.io's Microwave Sounder satellites. These satellites continue to capture observations of storms and demonstrate their value this hurricane season. Our sounders observed Kristy late on October 24, as a Category 4 storm with concentric eyewalls clear in the image Interested in how Tomorrow.io's technology is improving hurricane forecasting? Are you ready for the weather week ahead? Tomorrow.io's meteorologists have their eyes on notable conditions across the US. Here's this week's snapshot: 🌲 Pacific Northwest An active weather pattern continues, with multiple systems affecting the area from Washington through northern California. Rain and higher elevation snow will be a recurring theme, particularly mid-week and again over the weekend. 🌧️❄️ 🏔️ Intermountain West Rain and snow showers spread across Utah, Nevada, and Idaho, moving into Colorado and Wyoming today. Urban areas like Salt Lake City and Denver may see mixed precipitation, though significant snow accumulations are unlikely. 🌨️ 🌾 Central US A significant frontal system forms mid-week, bringing showers and potential severe thunderstorms from Nebraska to Texas. This system will track east, affecting the Great Lakes by Wednesday night. Cooler, seasonal temperatures settle in afterward, with another disturbance expected over the weekend. ⛈️ 🌵 Southwest The week starts dry and windy, raising fire danger across eastern California to Las Vegas. Conditions calm later in the week, maintaining warm temperatures inland while coastal areas experience cooler, more comfortable weather. 🔥🌬️ 🌊 Great Lakes Warm and windy conditions prevail early in the week with temperatures soaring into the 80s in places like Chicago. A storm system brings showers and storms by Wednesday, cooling off temperatures to seasonal norms by the weekend. 🌪️🌦️ 🍂 Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Weather disturbances bring rain showers and warm conditions early in the week, followed by a cold front on Thursday with potential thunderstorms. Cooler, seasonal weather returns for the weekend. 🌦️🍁 🌞 Southeast/Florida High pressure promotes dry, pleasant conditions across the Southeast, except for Florida where increased moisture triggers afternoon showers and storms mid-week onwards. ☀️🌦️ 🌀 Tropics The Atlantic remains quiet, but a potential tropical disturbance could emerge in the eastern Caribbean next week, tracking towards the Bahamas. While it's projected to stay east of the Florida/US East Coast, it warrants close monitoring. Stay tuned to Tomorrow.io for weekly updates and stay prepared as we navigate the week's dynamic weather patterns! #weeklyweather #weatherupate

TomorrowNow.org is transforming farming in Kenya. 🌱 "'Nzioka began learning to farm when he was 7. His parents would make a small hole and he’d toss a couple of seeds into it. 'That’s how they involved me,' he says. For years, he applied the lessons of his ancestors to his fields. He’d plant in the fall during the rainy season, and he’d harvest a few months later at the start of the dry season. But in the last five or six years, the weather patterns shifted, largely due to a changing climate. Nzioka had no way of knowing when it would rain. 'I [would] plant my produce,' he says, 'and then rains don’t come as expected. And so the harvest becomes low, and so that becomes quite difficult since I’ve invested in planting.' When a farmer like Nzioka has an unsuccessful harvest, it can mean a whole year of lost income. 'I planted blindly and so I kept on guessing and just taking risks,' he says." Learn more in this story highlighting TomorrowNow.org's work with Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) and Tomorrow.io in bringing weather technology to farmers in Kenya. https://lnkd.in/gzpfHAuz #ruralfarming #agrobusiness

ICYMI 📣 TomorrowNow.org was recently featured in a story by NPR, showing their work transforming Kenya's agriculture sector with weather technology. TomorrowNow.org, in partnership with Tomorrow.io and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), is providing crucial weather intelligence to smallholder farmers via text message. Through an agro-advisory program, farmers like Stephen Nzioka, receive weekly weather forecasts advising them on farming practices despite the weather. As Stephen shared: "I have just received an alert that it’s going to rain tomorrow. Since joining this program, I can farm confidently and generate more income to secure my children’s future through education." 📲 Through collaboration between nonprofits, private-sector innovators like Tomorrow.io, and catalytic philanthropy, we'll transform farming in places lacking weather infrastructure. 🌍 Check out the full story: https://lnkd.in/gXmusn-H Or listen to the segment below! ⬇️
