UNFCU had a lively and eventful June, marked by numerous celebrations, including recognizing #CaribbeanAmericanHeritageMonth! We celebrated and learned more the diverse and vibrant Caribbean cultures through a video montage of our staff sharing their heritage, a brief history of the Caribbean, and a fun interactive workout routine. The Caribbean has such a rich culture and we are so proud to have so many employees represent these islands. They are part of the reason why UNFCU is a Great Place to Work! #unfcu #unfculife #unfcupeople #unfcuculture #creditunions #cudifference #peaceofmind #serviceexcellence #greatplacetowork #DEIB #CaribbeanAmericanHeritageMonth

UNFCU congratulates our DEIB Champion of the Month, Barbara Esposito, AVP Mortgage Processing & Closing! “Promoting the DEIB platform allows me to assist in creating an environment where employees of all backgrounds and identities feel included, valued, supported, and most importantly accepted. Participating in the DEIB initiatives is a continuous process of learning about a range of experiences. We have been fortunate to have hosted several amazing panel-led discussions. I am committed to continuing to focus on helping employees understand how to build a more welcoming and supportive workplace.” – Barbara Esposito Barbara enjoys traveling with her family. Happy Pride! UNFCU’s LGBTQ+ Business Resource Group (BRG) has been busy engaging the organization in many ways to celebrate this month and show that we are all united in pride. Some staff members showed their support and commitment to the LGBTQ+ community by attending their local pride parade celebrations. In our Long Island City headquarters, we hosted a fantastic staff event filled with engaging trivia games and creative puzzle piece decorating. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together, celebrate diversity, and reinforce our dedication to inclusion. Lastly, in our recent UNFCU internal podcast, some BRG members bravely shared about their individual experiences with finding acceptance in communities. Thank you to everyone who participated and made these events memorable. Let's continue to stand united in celebrating and advocating for equality and love. #unfcu #unfculife #unfcuculture #unfcupeople #PrideMonth #DiversityAndInclusion #CelebratePride

At our recent town hall, UNFCU's President & CEO, John Lewis provided some key organizational updates, ensuring transparency and clarity within our organization. He also took this opportunity to spotlight UNFCU's employee development programs, with some participants sharing their experiences. This inspirational panel was evidence of our unwavering commitment to the personal and professional growth of our staff. A special highlight was hearing from Tim Challen, founder of the Kilimanjaro Initiative. Tim shared his inspiring journey and the profound impact of corporate social responsibility can have on our organization. This reinforces the significant role UNFCU plays in making a difference not just to our members, but the world. Together, we're not just building careers, we're helping to build a better world. #unfcu #unfculife #unfcuculture #unfcupeople #peaceofmind #creditunions #corporatesocialresponsibility #EmployeeDevelopment #leadership

On 3 June, the UNFCU FOUNDATION INC hosted its 15th annual golf outing at the historic Nassau Country Club to support the incredible work of the Kilimanjaro Initiative (KI). KI was founded in 2006 by our very own Tim Challen to encourage young women and men in Kenya and Tanzania to have self-belief and to assist in providing opportunities that will enable them to take on constructive roles in their communities. KI organizes an annual Mt. Kilimanjaro climb to raise awareness of social issues that affect youth, in which more than 400 youth have gained mentorship and team-building skills. This year’s golf event brought together a record 122 golfers in support of initiatives that promote self-belief for youth in the Kibera informal settlement. Thank you to all our sponsors, supporters and volunteers for making the event a success. Though the golf outing has concluded, you can still support the UNFCU Foundation and the impactful efforts of the Kilimanjaro Initiative. UNFCU continues to give back to our community. This month, 20+ UNFCU staff volunteered at the Materials for the Arts (MFTA), a not-for-profit organization that connects local students, teachers, artists and non-profits with free materials and inspires them to imagine a more creative and sustainable future. Our volunteers received a brief introduction to MFTA and toured their beautiful art gallery with displays made from recycled products. They then organized different sections of the warehouse from paper products to swatch samples from designer clothing companies. Individuals and a variety of organizations donate reused materials and art supplies to MFTA. Our volunteers had fun participating and we are thankful to have the opportunity to help make a difference in the community that has given so much to us. #unfcu #unfculife #unfcupeople #unfcuculture #volunteerism #sustainability

UNFCU congratulates our DEIB Champion of the Month, David J Gosstola MBA, CPA, SVP Finance! “I saw getting involved with DEIB as an opportunity to learn from participants in our Business Resource Groups, and grow as an individual. I also saw an opportunity to support and be an advocate for inclusion and diversity within UNFCU and other organizations with which I’m involved. The Juneteenth educational event and role playing in that activity was the DEIB-focused project that was most meaningful to me. It enhanced my understanding of the importance of recognizing that day as a milestone of advancement in America’s history that should be celebrated and reflected upon in the pursuit of further advancing DEIB.” – David Gosstola David enjoys traveling with his family to college football games, weight training, and getting back into skiing. His favorite quote is “Never give up.” – Winston Churchill #unfculife #unfcuculture #unfcupeople #peaceofmind #greatplacetowork #creditunions #diversity #equity #inclusion #belonging #DEIB
