About us

For months, I have been working with an incredible group of global educators at the United Nations Association of the United States of America on creating interdisciplinary lessons to #BeatMalaria for United Nations Foundation ’s United to Beat Malaria campaign. Check out the lessons in English + Spanish and share them with an educator in your network: https://adobe.ly/3ZeIJIO

NEW: We partnered with United Nations Association of the United States of America's Educators Affinity Group to help bring malaria awareness to the classroom 🏫 For millions of children around the world, attending school is a privilege complicated by numerous barriers — including malaria. This resource can help teachers inspire students to learn why it's important to defeat this deadly disease. Thank you to UNA Educators Affinity Group for developing the educational content presented in the supplemental activities! View the materials here: https://adobe.ly/3ZeIJIO

In Ethiopia, malaria cases spiked to nearly six million from January 1 to September 22, with Gambella reporting the second highest number of cases per 100,000 population. This is worrying. With our partner on the ground, we are supporting malaria prevention efforts to fight against this surge. https://lnkd.in/gHP7nqmb World Health Organization ReliefWeb

Exciting news from our partner Vestergaard! 🎉 The West African region may soon have its first-ever manufacturing facility for insecticide-treated bed nets through a new partnership with Nigeria’s government. Read about this localization effort in Devex: https://lnkd.in/gMhJeZae
#UNGA is always an important moment to get together with global changemakers, and yesterday we were privileged to mark an important milestone with partners and collaborators that we hope will help increase access to insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs) - the mainstay of malaria control. Together with the Federal Government of Nigeria, acting through the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as an initial step to establish Nigeria as the first West African manufacturing hub for ITNs – and the first on the continent to produce dual active-ingredient nets to help combat insecticide resistance. This joint venture will result in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that will function as a flagship on ITN quality and bioefficacy performance, as well as industrial health, safety and sustainability practices. To help make it a reality, we are currently in discussions on financing with MedAccess and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation. Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks and months as this initiative progresses! We’re saddened by the tragic passing of NBA Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo. A native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dikembe used his platform to support humanitarian efforts across education and health – including the creation of the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital in Kinshasa, the capital of DRC. In the early days of Nothing But Nets, Dikembe raised awareness about the prevalence of malaria and helped distribute lifesaving, insecticide-treated bed nets in Senegal. More recently, we teamed up with Dikembe, his Foundation, and UNHCR to prevent malaria among refugees and displaced persons in the DRC. Dikembe had a heart of gold and worked to make sure that mothers, babies, and patients in the hospital he founded slept safely under bed nets. Our thoughts are with his family and the NBA community during this time.

A huge thank you to our incredible #BeatMalaria champions who participated in our September virtual meetings with their congressional offices. Through your advocacy, we reached 84 congressional offices across 35 states, demonstrating the critical importance of U.S. leadership in global malaria programs. Constituents made the case for life-saving investments and highlighted the collaborative efforts of the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative, The Global Fund, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, UNICEF, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in advancing malaria elimination. Together, we’re making an impact!
