A New Course for Offshore Wind
About us
Vineyard Wind is well underway in developing the nation's first utility-scale offshore wind energy project over 15 miles off the coast of Massachusetts. The project will generate clean, renewable, cost-competitive energy for over 400,000 homes and businesses across the Commonwealth, while reducing carbon emissions by over 1.6 million tons per year. New England is shifting to clean, competitively-priced energy, and Massachusetts state law seeks to have 3,200 MW of offshore wind providing electricity to the Commonwealth by 2035, which could represent over 20% of electricity consumed in the state. Vineyard Wind is an important part of that goal, and will make a significant contribution to the Commonwealth’s aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while growing our economy and enhancing energy security and reliability.

Vessels in the water and crews patrolling beaches are performing cleanup as necessary on Nantucket, while overflight monitoring continues as we assist in the response to the damaged GE Vernova blade. Collections include incident debris and other refuse in the monitored areas. We are continuously updating retrieval, coordination, and safety plans and coordinating closely with municipal, tribal, state and federal stakeholders. We thank those who are participating in this response and doing so safely. Incident hotline: 833-609-5768.

We continue to assist in the recovery response following the unexpected damage to GE Vernova's blade. Vessels continue to collect debris, noting loads are lighter than prior days. On land, our crews helped collect additional debris identified yesterday. When island weather clears, crews will return to the beaches to continue operations. Monitoring and coordination continues across all areas, and we continue to keep municipal, tribal, state and federal authorities updated. Incident hotline: 833-609-5768

Vineyard Wind’s assistance in response to the unexpected damage to GE’s Vernova blade continues. Land, sea and air response teams are working in tandem, and the ongoing monitoring and removal has found limited, scattered debris. Shorebird monitoring continues as well on Muskeget and Tuckernuck, and those efforts are closely coordinated with all debris removal efforts in those areas. We continue to keep municipal, tribal, state and federal authorities updated. Incident hotline: 833-609-5768

Following a report Friday afternoon from the Chatham Harbormaster that debris from the damaged GE Vernova wind turbine blade was located 3.5 miles southeast of Monomoy Island, nine vessels were immediately dispatched to the area, and the debris recovered at approximately 4:30 PM. Smaller debris was subsequently found in the vicinity, and the vessels collected those debris throughout Friday evening and during the day Saturday. Vineyard Wind is focused on assisting in the recovery of debris caused by GE Vernova’s damaged wind blade. https://hubs.la/Q02Hmg3v0

This morning, a significant part of the remaining GE Vernova blade detached from the turbine. Maritime crews were insight overnight preparing to respond to this development, though current weather conditions create a difficult working environment. Despite these challenging weather conditions, a fleet of vessels remains at sea managing the situation and working to remove bulk debris. With public officials, we will continue to keep the islands informed of developments as we work closely with state, federal, local and tribal partners to respond to this evolving situation, with the safety of our personnel, the public and the environment as our highest priority. https://hubs.la/Q02H6g2N0
