Last week I did something in my business I’ve never done before: (it was terrifying!) I launched a program a customer pitched to me. This customer - a founder - figured out a way to 100% automate a task that people usually outsource because they dread it so much. She’s got 1 paying customer, and is a member of my Founder-Led Marketing Club (FLMC). During an FLMC office hour, we analyzed what’s working and specific ideas for micro-tests she could run next. I asked what else I could be doing to support her… 𝗔𝗻𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗘𝗫𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗟𝗬 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳: 🫂 A group of peers also on their journey to 10 Happy Paying Customers 📈 Support to (in)validate her key GTM hypotheses. ➕ Weekly structure, tutorials and templates for what to do, along with accountability and gamification to get it done. Then I realized: → This was something my other clients would LOVE, too. I know because several founders have asked me for variations of this. So I decided to run a micro-test myself and launch a 6-week cohort program doing exactly what she asked… 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸: 🔥 3 founders booked their seats 🔥 1 more gave me a verbal commitment 🔥 Bringing the total members to 4 When you get close to your customers, they will help you build your business. Sometimes quite literally so. 𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽, 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀: — Each founder will draft their GTM hypotheses. — Then we’ll try to break it as a group (to strengthen our hypotheses) — Then we’ll micro-test it, while supporting each other 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹? 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 1-10 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀. With the aim of developing more creative and strategic marketing thinking, I have been working on some start2impact University projects in my free time over the last year. I would like to share with you one of my first projects. It focuses on the strategic analysis of the electric mobility service Dott. I learned to build buyer personas and consider them as real customers. Having a broader vision taught me to deeply understand customer experience and behavior and set a great strategy. “Oh sh#t - I’m looking for likeness!” This was the insight that recently hit me at the Google Cloud Next ‘Examined Human’ event in Las Vegas. I was immersed in the ‘Patterns’ exercise comparing my culturally-influenced preferences with other people’s profiles. The third time I overlayed my ‘Patterns’ with those of fellow participant, I noticed my eyeballs scanning for overlapping dots. I was scanning for likeness. I realised with a jolt that it’s one thing to cognitively understand affinity bias and another thing entirely to have a felt, lived experience of how it operates automatically in YOUR brain and YOUR body. Affinity bias, also referred to as similarity bias, is the unconscious human tendency to gravitate toward other people with similar backgrounds, interests, and beliefs. Choosing instead to seek and embrace difference takes unlearning and learning. And it starts with awareness. That’s why I am proud to be now working with The LOTE Agency in a newly created role Director of More Inclusive Experiences. And we are SO excited to be working with Performance Paradigm LLC to bring Examined Human to Australia.
