𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄.” As part of the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition, CEOs of leading European companies, including our CEO Nils Aldag, were featured in a video - underlining the important role of green hydrogen for Europe and calling for immediate actions to scale up the industry. 📅 Tomorrow, Member States will meet to appoint the next President of the European Commission, to be confirmed by the newly elected European Parliament. With its European #GreenDeal, the current Commission played a crucial role in supporting the nascent renewable hydrogen industry, bringing much needed regulatory certainty and strong targets for its uptake in hard-to-electrify sectors. However, the journey is far from over. The new European Parliament and the next Commission President should stay the course and focus on delivering the Green Deal as Europe's growth strategy, with international competitiveness of the European industry at its core: 🎯 Set strong EU funding to massively scale up green hydrogen production and bring its cost down. 🎯 Adopt a robust European industrial strategy to build a competitive and resilient value chain in Europe as a matter of strategic industrial autonomy and security. The future of our industry depends on it. Policymakers, the time to act is now! 👉 Learn more in our Manifesto (link in the comments). #HydrogenIsTheAnswer #EUElections2024

Accelerating green hydrogen deployment where it is most needed to solve the climate crisis, increase energy security and improve job and other socioeconomic opportunities
So excited to see this new report published together with our friends at the Green Hydrogen Catapult using RMI analysis. Some of our key findings: 🔹 Blue hydrogen imports from most countries (except for perhaps Norway) will not help Europe reach its decarbonization objectives and may stall emissions reductions across heavy industry and transport. 🔹 Combusting blue hydrogen in turbines for power generation in Japan and South Korea may be worse than burning coal or LNG for power from an emissions perspective. 🔹 With currently-proposed standards, Japan and Korea risk underestimating nearly 50% of hydrogen’s lifecycle emissions. 🔹 When calculating hydrogen’s emissions intensity, locking in theoretical upstream methane leakage values leads to perverse incentives for developers and will allow certain highly emissive hydrogen products to qualify as “clean,” seriously jeopardizing climate ambitions. It has been great to work with Oleksiy Tatarenko Natalie Janzow Elena Essa Connor Kerr Joaquin Rosas Caroline Biotteau Sam Bartlett on this.
To lower carbon emissions in key sectors like steel, shipping, aviation and fertilisers, we need clear and rigorous standards for truly clean hydrogen. This report, developed by the Green Hydrogen Catapult and GH2 with analysis led by RMI underscores the importance of robust measuring, monitoring, and verification of emissions to ensure that truly clean hydrogen can lead to national decarbonisation objectives. Why are clear standards so critical? 🔹 The potential for emissions reductions from hydrogen depends on its production method: green hydrogen, made with renewable energy, can achieve near-zero emissions, while blue hydrogen relies on efficient methane leakage controls and permanent storage of captured carbon. 🔹 Accurate measuring and effective monitoring and verification throughout the hydrogen value chain are crucial to ensure robust and accurate standards. 🔹 To assess hydrogen’s carbon intensity, we need government and international organizations to address gaps such as incomplete life-cycle emissions assessments and inconsistent market definitions to ensure true decarbonization and a level playing field. We are proud to be part of the work pushing for robust and accurate standards to drive truly clean hydrogen economy forward. "Leading green hydrogen producers are committed to sustainability, but at the moment, that work isn't incentivized or recognized in global certification schemes. We need to push for higher standards to make sure that that's reflected." - Dr. Sam Bartlett, Director of the Green Hydrogen Standard, Green Hydrogen Organisation - GH2 In our recent webinar, Dr. Bartlett highlighted a critical gap in the green hydrogen industry: the need for robust certification schemes that recognize and incentivize sustainability efforts. As we advance, it's crucial that our environmental commitments are verifiable and aligned with global standards. 🔗 Dive deeper into the discussion and explore the insights shared by leading experts by listening to the full conversation here: https://lnkd.in/dMbv2Feb Don't miss out on our next webinar on the 6th of August!
