On average, women occupy 34% of board seats in the EU, with notable differences based on the measures implemented. 🗓️ By 30 June 2026, large EU-listed companies are expected to achieve 40% representation of the underrepresented sex among non-executive directors or 33% across all board positions. 🔷 5 most significant challenges for Ursula von der Leyen’s next term as President of the European Commission https://lnkd.in/diMxcCdf 🇪🇺 Ursula von der Leyen will need to navigate resistance from industries reliant on fossil fuels, and member states wary of the economic implications of the green transition. The same goes for other challenging files, such as digitalization, geopolitical stability, strategic autonomy, and migration and asylum policies. 🔵 CEC European Managers reminds the European Commission that Social Dialogue, the EU Pillar of Social Rights, and the 7 key priorities from the #UseYourLeadership campaign are also crucial to fostering gender equality, the digital transition or to addressing the shortage of skills, among other important aspects, in the workplace. Merit vs. Representation: What Matters Most? When filling roles, should we focus on merit or prioritize factors like gender representation? I believe in choosing the best person for the job—someone whose skills, experience, and attitude align perfectly with the role. Representation matters, but merit should always be the foundation. Striving for diversity is essential, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of sidelining the most capable individuals. The goal should be creating opportunities for everyone to compete fairly and ensuring that the right talent gets recognized, regardless of gender or any other factor. What do you think? Should merit always take precedence, or is there room for compromise? #MeritBasedHiring #RightPersonForTheJob #DiversityAndInclusion
