✈️ Aviation is often seen as a "hard-to-abate" sector— meaning that it is not easy to decarbonise. This is mainly due to the massive amounts of energy required to get tonnes and tonnes worth of aircraft into the air. But decarbonising aviation isn't impossible! Why? Because all players in the sector are determined to get there and are turning words into concrete actions.🌍 A4E, alongside ACI EUROPE, CANSO, Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD), and the European Regions Airline Association, has set out a roadmap containing measures to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 through the Destination 2050 Alliance. This week, we also called on policymakers to include aviation in the Clean Industrial Deal. This will be an important early priority for the next European Commission—and essential for aviation's green transition. You can find out more details in the comments. 🚀 You can also check out one of our latest videos, where A4E’s Communications Director Kevin Hiney explains how policymakers can help accelerate aviation's decarbonisation journey by including it in the Clean Industrial Deal 🎥 #Sustainability #NetZero2050 #FlyingForOurFuture

✈️ Driving the Future of Aviation with Innovation! The European Commission has published the "ERA Pilot Initiative on European Aviation Research & Technology Infrastructures Gaps Analysis"—a crucial step towards advancing the EU’s green, digital, and circular aviation industry. This initiative aims to identify the gaps in current aviation research infrastructures (like wind tunnels and engine test benches) and proposes a plan to modernise and build new facilities. The goal? To support the development of #disruptive #aviation #technologies, including #hydrogen-powered and electric propulsion systems, and accelerate the entry of new demonstrators into the market. By fostering collaboration and updating technology infrastructures, the EU is taking a significant step in transforming aviation towards a sustainable future. This is an exciting time for the industry as we move closer to a #greener, more #digital aviation sector! "How can governments foster a climate of #innovation 💡 in sustainable aviation?" Our panelists and participants at this year’s #BerlinAviationSummit2024 identified 4 key aspects: 1️⃣ Governments must increase their support for #research and #development of new technologies – it is crucial for advancing sustainable aviation. 2️⃣ Governments are called upon to create a regulatory framework that incentivizes the early use and production of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (#SAF) without excessive bureaucracy. 3️⃣ Governments need to focus on building #infrastructure for SAF and hydrogen to support sustainable aviation. 4️⃣ Last but not least, governments should provide necessary #funds to build factories and facilitate the production of SAF. For more insights listen to Michael Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, Joanna Drake, Deputy Director General, DG Research & Innovation, European Commission, Sarah Ryglewski, Minister of State & Member of Parliament, and Markus Otto, SVP Aviation Europe, DHL Express. 🎬👇 Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. Meet #GOLIAT: 1️⃣0️⃣ partners from 8️⃣ countries, working together for 4️⃣ years, at 3️⃣ European airports. Sounds big? – So is our target! 🎯 With the support of the EU’s Horizon Europe Framework Programme, we will demonstrate how technologies enabling the handling and refuelling of liquid #hydrogen can be developed and used safely and reliably for #airport operations. These solutions are essential to taking hydrogen-powered aircraft to the skies and cutting CO2 emissions. Our steps on the way? 📌Developing and demonstrating LH2 #refuelling technologies scaled-up for future large commercial aircraft 📌Demonstrating small-scale LH2 aircraft #ground_operations at airports 📌Developing the #standardisation and #certification framework for future LH2 operations 📌Assessing the sizing and #economics of the hydrogen value chains for airports All these steps require #collaboration within and beyond the aviation industry. This is reflected by the GOLIAT - Horizon Europe project partners, which represent academia, airport operators and leading hydrogen-industry companies. We are proud to be working with H2FLY 🇩🇪, Chart Industries, Inc., Delft University of Technology 🇳🇱, Leibniz Universität Hannover 🇩🇪, Rotterdam The Hague Airport 🇳🇱, Stuttgart Airport 🇩🇪, Royal Schiphol Group 🇳🇱, Budapest Airport 🇭🇺, and VINCI 🇫🇷, supported by EU Science, Research and Innovation 🇪🇺. Together, we can pave the runway for the widespread daily use of liquid hydrogen at airports! #HorizonEU Airbus
