We had a fantastic time participating in the first Greenovation Summit with GSA on the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) campus last week! This event brought together federal agencies, national labs, energy service companies (ESCOs), technology vendors, and more to discuss how to leverage underutilized technologies when striving to meet federal sustainability goals. 💡 Alongside GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan and NREL Director of the Strategic Partnerships Office Andrea Watson, FEMP Director Mary Sotos gave opening remarks emphasizing how important partnerships are for advancing agency cleanenergy milestones. 🤝 💬 "Federal facilities are critical infrastructure. Using innovative and underutilized technologies to improve our federal energy footprint isn't only a nice to have, they're important tools as we work to enhance our nation's energy security, efficiency, and resilience. Public/private partnerships like GSA's Green Proving Ground are essential as agencies determine which technologies the government should leverage, " said Mary Sotos. 💬 "We’re committed to making smart investments like these [at GSA] – ones that accelerate our transition to net-zero, create jobs, bolster the economy, build healthier communities, deliver effective government, and save money doing it," said Administrator Carnahan. Together, we're focused on helping agencies take advantage of the momentum and opportunity we're seeing with performance contracts and reminding them to consider all available technologies - especially underutilized options like microgrids, high performance chillers, geothermal heat pumps, and battery energy storage - to meet goals and advance the federal cleanenergy transition. Thank you to all who attended. Let's get to work! GSA Office of the Administrator U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
